Star-Lord is the leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy and for the most part, he’s pretty cool. He’s funny, he’s heroic when he needs to be, and he has partaken quite the journey through his two films. I am beyond excited to see him interacting with the other Avengers in Infinity War and I can’t wait to see this movie! So, let’s look at his evolution through the two movies he’s appeared in so far.
Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
When we first meet Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy he was galactic scum. He was a thief, a liar, a cheat, a womanizer, a criminal, and he just overall wasn’t a great guy. But as the movie continued on he eventually realized that maybe he was something more than just a Ravager. Ravagers are heartless criminals in the galaxy but Peter Quill wasn’t exactly that.
When Gamora nearly died he risked his life and his freedom to save her. When the world, Xandar, was in imminent danger of being wiped out by Ronan the Accuser did he run to the other side of the galaxy and hide like a coward? No. He decided to fight against the odds and try to save the Xandarians. He sounds like quite the hero if you ask me.
And the fact that he wasn’t afraid to grab the Power Stone when it was unveiled from Ronan’s weapon even though it was very likely that he would die shows how much of a hero he truly is. He, with his friends, saved the galaxy and even though he was scum at the beginning of the movie he was an incredible savior of the galaxy by the end and that’s pretty awesome. Oh, and he was a leader too. So he really did live up to his superhero identity, Star-Lord, after all. 🙂
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was heavily centered around Star-Lord as James Gunn introduced his father to the equation of his story. Peter was faced with an emotional obstacle as he had to discover who he was and what his place was in the galaxy. He obtained a caring father who was ready to finally be the parent that Quill had been wanting for years and then lost him nearly as soon as he got him when he discovered that his father, Ego, had been the one to kill his mother. Can you imagine how terrible that was for him? He just found his real biological father but then had to find out that his dad was this galactic maniac within maybe a couple of days of knowing him. That’s a pretty messed up situation.
So, he had to become a galactic hero again as he had to save the galaxy from the disturbing plan of his father and even though he had to destroy his other parent he learned that he had a family in his friends anyway so it didn’t even matter.
The loss of Yondu really affected him at the end of the movie, for the Ravager mogul was really his true father throughout his life. In losing Yondu his relationship with his friends will surely tighten even deeper and the next time we see the Guardians of the Galaxy they’re going to be a tighter galaxy saving unit.
Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
And so now Star-Lord will finally return in Infinity War and I can’t wait to see his interactions with other humans of Earth. For his entire life, he has lived with aliens and humans from other planets and so to finally see him with other people from Earth will be really interesting.
I thank you for reading and I hope you have a beautiful day.
