Kylo Ren and Anakin Skywalker Basically Have the Same Outfit

I’ve already written a post displaying how similar Kylo Ren and Anakin Skywalker are to each other but once again I’ve found another blaring example of how the creative minds behind this current trilogy are pushing that idea in even the way Kylo dresses.

In The Last Jedi we see Kylo Ren sporting a new outfit, one with a shorter vest rather than the long robe he was wearing in The Force Awakens over a long sleeved shirt. There’s also a parting near the bottom of the vest which makes it a tad bit fancier than a simple vest.

Anakin Skywalker has the same style going on. The long sleeved shirt, the vest with that fancy parting at the bottom beneath the belt. Even the pants and the nearly-knee high boots. It’s kind of astonishing.

Another incredibly similar design is the shoulder area in their outfits.

As you can see the vest’s shoulder area is a square design that is a few inches from the actual shoulder.

And here you can see that same trend with the vest’s shoulder region. Of course, he’s not a Jedi so the actual design isn’t entirely the same but the fundamental look is.

And to prove even further my point that The Last Jedi was really focusing on his similarities to Anakin Skywalker here’s a picture of his outfit in The Force Awakens.

Kylo Ren, in The Force Awakens, resembled Darth Vader more than he did Anakin Skywalker.

It’s one of the reasons why at the time I thought he was kind of a Darth Vader rip-off.

It’s kind of strange because it’s as if Kylo Ren is reliving Anakin’s story but backwards. In The Force Awakens he was Darth Vader. In The Last Jedi he’s Anakin Skywalker when Anakin was conflicted and eventually turned to the dark side. In Episode IX will we see him as Anakin when he was a fullblown Jedi knight (meaning he’ll turn good?)

This is just a recent observation that I wanted to share you with and I hope you enjoyed. I thank you for reading and I hope you have a wonderful day. May the Force be with you.

  1. Hi Annlyel, I think I may have mentioned to you that I thought the “Flow of the Force” worked in a cycle and was equal and opposite (the light vs the dark, good vs evil, day and night etc) Well I think this may reflect the way Kylo Ben (<no I haven't mistyped that) is progressing. In the first trilogy we see Little Ani develop into Anakin…into Vader. Then we had a more stable journey with Luke becoming a Jedi from being a farm boy. Kylo I think is making the reverse journey from tyrant First Order Sith follower to possibly a (Grey) Jedi and his outfit does reflect that. It is, no pun intended, becoming lighter. There is no big helmet, no cape, no armour (a tidier hairstyle and no shirt too 😀 ). It is beginning to resemble more of a traditional Jedi outfit.
The Jedi outfit usually has an inner tunic (looks like a long sleeved Tee) with an outer tunic that looks like a martial arts/Karate Gi jacket. Over the jacket there are two long strips of material called Tabards (the leather pieces on Anakin's costume you referred to as a vest) which are held in place under the two belts the Jedi wear. There is a cloth belt or wrap called an Obi and over that the Jedi wear their tactical leather belt.

    1. First of all, lol. Secondly, I’m impressed about your Jedi clothing knowledge. That’s awesome! And third, what if this theory is correct and he shows up in ‘Episode IX’ wearing a truly Jedi-inspired outfit? I will practically lose it with excitement. 🙂

      1. It’s amazing what bits of knowledge you can pick up over decades. I think Kylo will probably appear more as a Grey Jedi, who don’t adhere vehemently to the Jedi code or costume. They may have the tabards but wear them over different styled tunics or have bits of scavenged armour plates etc (more cobbled together). The reason I think this is that Luke was “The Last Jedi” in the mould we have seen i.e. the noble knight in a cloak type, Jedi in future will be less formal or tied to stricture. Jedi 2.0 you could say.
