2019 Is Going To Be a Great Year for Disney

Disney has always contributed a huge chunk to the year’s box-office numbers but next year very well may be the company’s greatest year at the box-office, as some of its most-anticipated films are coming out next year. Of course, this year for Disney is nowhere close to over box-office wise with Ralph Breaks the Internet coming out next week and Mary Poppins Returns finishing out the year. But, as 2018 comes closer and closer to an end, let’s look at some of the Disney movies coming out next year that we can start getting excited for.

Captain Marvel

January and February may be devoid of any highly-anticipated Disney films but March will change that as it debuts one of the most looked forward to movies of next year; Captain Marvel. This film is exciting for several reasons. One; it’s the first female-led Marvel movie in the MCU. Two; it’s a movie focused on one of Marvel’s most prominent superheroes. And three; it’s the last piece of the puzzle that’s leading us to the events of Avengers 4. Who couldn’t be more excited?

Captain Marvel is set to be released for March 8, 2019.

With Disney deciding to make live-action adaptations of its most famous animated films it wasn’t going to be long before Dumbo would get its invitation to the live-action party. With its release set for March 29, a whole three weeks after Captain Marvel, its set to dominate the box-office for quite a few weeks until Avengers 4. Especially if it ends up as good as it looks. March and April’s box-office numbers will most likely be dominated by Disney.

Dumbo will enter a theater near you on March 29, 2019.

Avengers 4

Avengers 4 may still not have an official title or a trailer but that doesn’t mean we’re not super excited to see it. It’s undoubtedly one of the highest-anticipated films of next year and if it is anywhere near as entertaining as Avengers: Infinity War it’s going to take the box-office by storm for at least a month.

Avengers 4 is set to come out on May 3, 2019.

The second live-action Disney film to come out next year is Disney favorite, Aladdin. With a teaser for the film getting released a few weeks ago my excitement for this movie has grown immensely. It may not break records at the box-office but it will earn Disney at least another $300 million dollars to its pocket.

Aladdin will come out on May 24, 2019.

Toy Story 4

Fans of the Toy Story franchise will be glad to see this fourth entry in the Toy Story series. Each film has garnered immense amounts of praise and love, with Toy Story 3 being only the second animated film (Up was the first) to get nominated for Best Picture and Best Animated Film. And if it gets anywhere near as much love as Incredibles 2 did this year it’ll be a booming success for Disney.

Toy Story 4 comes out on June 24, 2019.

Spider-Man: Far from Home

With both Captain Marvel and Avengers 4 coming out it seems that Marvel’s run would be over right? Wrong! Spider-Man: Far from Home will be the final Marvel movie to premiere next year and it will undoubtedly place another nice chunk of cash in Disney’s pocket.

Spider-Man: Far from Home premieres on July 5, 2019.

The Lion King

A few years ago we got to see The Jungle Book in a live-action adaptation and next year we’ll get to see The Lion King in all of its live-action glory. This film, if it ends up being absolutely incredible, could allow Disney to soar competition-free through mid-July and all the way into August.

The Lion King is set to come out July 19, 2019.

Artemis Fowl

Oscar-nominated director Kenneth Branagh takes on Disney’s Artemis Fowl, which, until today, I’ve never heard of before. Here’s the synopsis.

Artemis Fowl II, a young Irish criminal mastermind, kidnaps the fairy LEPrecon officer Holly Short for ransom to fund the search for his missing father.

Artemis Fowl is set to be released August 9, 2019.

Frozen 2

After Artemis Fowl there will be a stretch of time where Disney will finally be out of the picture so that other companies can try to dominate the box-office for a short while but then Frozen‘s highly anticipated sequel, Frozen 2 will finally arrive after a six-year-long wait.

With Frozen making over $1.2 billion dollars, it won’t be a surprise if its sequel does just as well at the box-office. Especially if the movie ends up just as good or maybe even better than its predecessor.

Frozen 2 is set come out November 22, 2019.

Star Wars: Episode IX

And last but definitely least the highly-anticipated final entry of Star Wars‘ current trilogy, Episode IX, will hyperspace into theaters. Both entries of the current Star Wars trilogy have made a combination of $3 billion dollars and Episode IX is set to at least tack on another billion dollars. With it being the end of the Skywalker saga if it ends up living up to fans’ expectations it could possibly obtain more money than even The Force Awakens did. And if that happens that will be an extraordinary feat for Disney.

Star Wars: Episode IX is set to come out on December 21, 2019.

So, with these nine movies (and I’m pretty sure there are others that I don’t know about) Disney is set to have one of the greatest years at the box-office that it’s ever had. Avengers 4 and Episode IX are destined to become billion-dollar hits but there are other movies in this list that could join the billion-dollar club as well; Frozen 2Toy Story 4, and potentially Captain Marvel if it overperforms like Black Panther did.

All in all, even though there are still some films I’m excited to see this year (one of them being Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald which is out in theaters now) I can’t wait until 2019. It’s going to be a lot of fun. 🙂

I thank you for reading and I hope you have a great day.

  1. Avengers 4 YES!
    The Lion King YES
The original version of Dumbo always makes me cry so I will see what the reviews are like first before watching it.
