The Upcoming MCU Films Coming After ‘Spider-Man: Far from Home’

Avengers: Endgame has just come out, ending the Infinity Saga. The next Marvel movie to look forward to is Spider-Man: Far from Home which will be the official end of Phase 3 in the MCU. But what comes next? What new Marvel movies can we look forward to? Well, that’s what I’m here to share with you. Get excited ’cause we’ve got a lot to be excited for in the future. 🙂

SPOILERS from Endgame AHEAD!

Black Widow-May 2020

If you were disappointed with Black Widow’s involvement in Avengers: Endgame don’t worry, Marvel’s got you covered. Next year the super-assassin-turned-Avenger’s origin story will come to light as Scarlet Johannsson gears up one last time for this highly-anticipated standalone film. While much hasn’t been said about the movie it’s currently underseeing production. Starring alongside Scarlet Johannsson in the film is David Harbour (Hellboy), Rachel Weisz (The Mummy and The Favourite), Florence Pugh (Fighting With My Family), and O-T Fagbenle (The Handmaiden’s Tale). It will also be directed by a female director, Cate Shortland, and written by Ned Benson and Jac Schaeffer. Sounds exciting.

The Eternals-Probably November 2020

As much research as I have tried to glean about The Eternals I’m still not quite sure who these characters are. All I know is that The Eternals are a race of extremely powerful immortal beings and that their story is being brought to life in the next phase of the MCU. Angelina Jolie (Maleficent), Kumail Nanjiani (The Big Sick), and Dong-seok Ma (Train to Busan) are the actors that are set to star in the film so far. Chloé Zhao is set to direct the film.

Doctor Strange 2-2021

Doctor Strange is my favorite Marvel superhero, maybe favorite superhero of all time and with him returning to life in Endgame it’s not going to be long before we get a little more information about the definite must-see, Doctor Strange 2.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3-2021

guardians2.jpg

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was supposed to come out next year but with the controversial tweets by James Gunn several years ago Marvel temporarily parted ways from the insightful director/writer James Gunn. Emphasis on “temporarily.” Now he’s back on board and the film is rumored for a 2021 release. Thor is now a part of the Guardians of the Galaxy which is EXCITING, Mark Hamill is rumored to play a role in the film as Rocket’s creator, and Gamora has been brought back to life but she’s from the past, meaning her relationship with the Guardians is going to be very…shaky. And with the likely debut of Adam Warlock in this upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie GOTG Vol. 3 is set up to be one of the greatest Marvel films of all time.

Black Panther 2-Maybe 2021 or 2022

Black Panther was a cultural phenomenon, wowing individuals around the world and becoming the first superhero film to earn a nomination for Best Picture. A sequel has already been announced and while there’s been no news on the film it’s pretty likely that the entire cast will return, including Michael B. Jordan. The sequel is set up to be another stunner and I can’t wait to see what director/writer Ryan Coogler can concoct next.

Shang-Chi-Probably 2022

While there have been many heroes in the MCU there haven’t been many Asian characters. Kevin Feige, however, is going to try to fix that problem by introducing a new hero in Shang-Chi, a Master of Kung-Fu. Asian-American director Daniel Destin Cretton (The Glass Castle) is set to direct the film and writers, Dave Callaham (Wonder Woman 1984), Steve Englehart (Avengers: Infinity War), and Jim Starlin (Guardians of the Galaxy) are set to write the film. If it’s anywhere as good as Black Panther it’s going to be a great movie to watch.

Of course, there are rumored Marvel films that still haven’t been announced to arrive in the coming years, like Captain MarvelAnt-Man and the Wasp 2, and a Fantastic Four film which I can’t WAIT to eventually get news of.

Until then, we have to wait and see how Phase 3 will end with Spider-Man: Far from Home. Exciting!

Which of these upcoming Marvel films has you most excited? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.

I thank you for reading and I hope you have a glorious day.

  1. Here’s a crazy thought. What if Disney does something different and rolls out the movies on the new cable channel and skips the theaters.
