C-3PO has been a constant presence throughout the Star Wars movies and with The Rise of Skywalker bringing the Skywalker Saga to an end it seems that J.J Abrams is going to give C-3PO more to do this time around other than just running around getting on the heroes’ nerves and spewing doom and gloom as he embarks on this incredible adventure.
Earlier this year a leaked poster was dropped before the events of Star Wars: Celebration featuring a look at some of the characters for The Rise of Skywalker and while it got people talking for several reasons people were the most intrigued by what appeared to be C-3PO holding Chewbacca’s bowcaster.
Remember this leaked poster? Seeing C-3PO with the bowcaster was almost laughable at the time but now it’s been confirmed, C-3PO will use Chewie’s bowcaster at some point in this movie and my mind is blown.
In the newest trailer for The Rise of Skywalker C-3PO is shown sitting up in a zombie-like way with bold red eyes. Immediately fans began to speculate that C-3PO had turned evil but I figured something different was at work here.
C-3PO is a protocol droid. He is not a droid designed for war, at all. So how does a protocol droid who has had no taste for fighting in his previous nine appearances suddenly show up in The Rise of Skywalker looking like he’s ready for battle as he wields Chewbacca’s bowcaster? I tell you how. He’s been reprogrammed.
In a newly released image that dropped today ahead of the big marketing push for The Rise of Skywalker, we are introduced to this new alien, a droidsmith named Babu Frik. Get it? Droidsmith.
Clearly, he’s for the Resistance which means it’s very possible that he is the one that will reprogram C-3PO into becoming a fierce, golden killing machine.
If that’s the case, it will be a fascinating development for a character who for so long has practically been a damsel in distress of sorts and I’m kind of thrilled at the prospect of this happening.
Of course, this is just a theory but…I think I’m right. 😁
What do you think? Are you excited to finally see C-3PO go ham on some First Order stormtroopers? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.
I thank you for reading and I hope you have an amazing day. May the Force be with you.
