If Only She Could Tell the Truth: Part 5

Qi’ra stepped into the musky indoors of The Lodge and her nose immediately wrinkled. Aliens and humans crowded every nook and cranny, feeling the area with their individual stenches that gave the space a unique aroma.

She looked over at Han who was gazing at the place with an impressed smirk.

“Welcome to The Lodge,” she said.

He nodded appreciatively. “Fun looking place.” He looked at her. “And this is where we’re supposed to find Mr. Hotshot?”

She smiled. “Oh, we’ll find him here. For as long as I’ve known him he always winds up back here to gamble during his downtime.”

His eyebrow raised. “And how long have you known him?” he asked as he followed her through the rowdy establishment.

Her smile softened as she looked at him. “Long enough to call him a friend.”

Han snorted. “It seems that you have a lot of male friends lately.”

She laughed. “What? Are you jealous?”

Han didn’t respond. Chewbacca growled softly causing Qi’ra to look back at him.

They continued through The Lodge and soon found themselves where Qi’ra knew the renowned gambler and smuggler Lando Calrissian would be; at a sabacc table.

Han placed his hands on his hips as they watched the charming gambler from afar. “So that’s him, huh?”

As she admired Lando she said, “Mmm-hmm.”

Han snorted again. “Let me at him. I bet I can win us that ship.”

Qi’ra’s attention whipped toward Han. “You can’t be serious?”

Chewbacca growled uneasily.

He looked at her with that devilish smirk that she had grown to love so much. “Oh, I’m serious. Stake me.”

She stepped closer to him. “These are serious gamblers, Han. They’re not to be messed with.”

“Qi’ra, I was playing sabacc on the streets of Corellia since I was seven years old. And winning, by the way. I think I can handle this.”

She looked at the sabacc table where Lando was laughing and talking with an alien next to him.

“Trust me,” he said.

She sighed. “Fine.”

He squeezed her shoulders with a wide grin. “Thank you.”

After giving him a few hundred credits and watching him disappear into the crowd she gave Chewbacca a sidelong glance.

“Let’s hope I haven’t made a fool of myself,” she said.

Chewbacca agreed.
