My Thoughts and Analysis of the Final ‘The Rise of Skywalker’ Trailer

Okay, okay, okay. Last night when I saw this trailer I was underwhelmed, disappointed, a bit confused altogether. But now, after getting a good night’s sleep, and seeing the trailer again two times this morning, I can legitimately say this trailer is amazing.

Never have we had a trailer so full of hope, so full of promise. It could be a massive lie of course if the movie actually concludes with a depressing ending, but for now, LucasFilm is not trying to fill us with fear but rather fill with us an undeniable joy of what’s to come. And yes, I’m sure there will be some heartbreak, maybe a few deaths along the way, but at the end of the movie, when the credits start rolling, the true happy ending that has taken four decades to bring about will finally arrive and it’s going to be beautiful. Oh my gosh, I’m getting emotional.

So there are my thoughts on the epic trailer. Here is my analysis.

In case you missed it, here in this gathering of the Resistance we can see Lando, bright in his yellow shirt, rallying his troops to prepare in their fight against the First Order.

We finally get to see Rose in this trailer but guess who else is shown? Yep, Dominic Monaghan is seen in the background, which is nice.

Is that the Tantative IV? I surely hope so.

This is undoubtedly a look at a new location in The Rise of Skywalker called Kijimi where out heroes will find newcomer Zorri Bliss. Unless the city is controlled by the First Order it seems that wherever Rey, Finn, and Poe go the First Order is not far behind.

A creepy throne awaits…The Emperor?

From the depths of a frozen world rises The Emperor’s new army. This is from the very same scene shown here in the D23 Special Look.

The Emperor is returning with a vengeance.

Prepare yourself for a space battle, unlike anything we’ve seen before.

This shot confirms that C-3PO will undergo some sort of major change at the new location Kijimi, considering that Zorri Bliss is shown in this shot and that Poe, Re, and Finn are shown wearing heavy coats because it’s clearly cold there.

“Taking one last look sir at my friends.”

Oh, C-3PO. Why is he trying to make people so emotional?

Jannah leads a force of horse-riding heroes into battle against the First Order.

It’s confirmed. The Death Star wreckage is indeed from the second Death Star as it shows Rey and Kylo Ren standing in the very tower where Palpatine’s throne resided. Woah. So cool.

What makes this shot even more interesting is the fact that it seems like Rey and Kylo’s battle may finally come to an end.

At this scene here where we see Finn shouting Rey’s name, you may notice, in the background, Jannah who is following close behind.

In this pristine white room, it shows Rey and Kylo Ren destroying what is a mantle with Darth Vader’s helmet atop it. This shot is important for several reasons. One, it’s the first shot we see with Kylo Ren wearing his helmet. Secondly, Rey and Kylo Ren are a team again. Third, it harks back to the idea, let the past die. Maybe they’re finally realizing moving on from the past is the only way to bring peace to the galaxy.

Woah, look at that imagery. It’s the horse-riding heroes on the top of what appears to be a…Star Destroyer? This movie is going to be visually astounding in IMAX.

There’s no doubt that the person Rey is confronting in this shot is Palpatine and the fear seems very real. I’m so scared about what’s going to happen to her.

So, that’s my analysis of the trailer’s variously interesting shots. More analysis will come your way tomorrow as I share the striking familiarity between this trailer and the trailer for The Force Awakens and what that could mean for The Rise of Skywalker.

I thank you for reading and I hope you have an amazing day. May the Force be with you, always.
