Wanda Maximoff has become one of the most prominent Avengers over her four-year span as the character. From villain to hero, Maximoff’s story has been quite tragic like her fellow Avengers, Thor, Gamora, Nebula, etc. Her parents were killed in an explosion as a child, her brother was killed during the Battle of Sokovia, and then the man she loved, Vision, was killed in the fight against Thanos, which ultimately would take her life, albeit for a small while.
Over time, we have watched her character grow, both mentally and physically in terms of power, and where her story will go next, we shall see but for now, let’s take a closer look at her story so far. Enjoy!
2015 Scarlet Witch
Wanda Maximoff, in Avengers: Age of Ultron, escaped HYDRA clutch’s with her brother and chose to join Ultron in defeating the Avengers, namely Tony Stark who she and her brother despised for what happened to their mother and father. However, the Maximoffs weren’t evil natured. They only wanted revenge. But when they discovered that Ultron was the real threat they did whatever they had to do to stop him.
Wanda Maximoff, an agent in bringing about Ultron’s creation, would be the one to ultimately help bring an end to his reign of terror. Her actions, however, would also play a part in bringing Vision to life, thanks to Ultron’s genius.
2016 Scarlet Witch
Wanda was trying to decipher what it means to be an Avenger. Without her brother, she had to turn to someone else as a de facto family member. She latched onto Steve Rogers due to his leadership qualities and his unwavering kindness. He treated her like a little sister by listening to her worries and understanding her. The event of the Sokovia Accords was a real blow to Maximoff, considering that she played a direct role in bringing about Ultron’s creation, hence the deaths of thousands in the city of Sokovia.
She had also to deal with her growing power which she was still trying to understand. This Maximoff seems at her most vulnerable as we see her dealing with the abilities she has as well as her increasingly wary standing with the government and the Avengers who she believes fears her. However, Vision never seems to be afraid of her and she begins to understand the people she cares about and where she stands on the actions of the Accords.
She would ultimately join Captain America and become a fugitive.
2018 Scarlet Witch
Thanos was no joke. When he, or his minions, arrived it wasn’t a good predicament. Wanda, by this point in her story, has fallen in love with fellow Avenger, Vision, who was target 101 for the Mad Titan due to the Mind Stone lodged in his forehead.
Wanda would have to face losing someone she loved again and would be burdened with literally killing Vision to save the world, a decision she is forced to make when the time arises.
This is a much more powerful version of Maximoff that we see at this point in her story. She seems to grasp her power more easily and understands what it means to be an Avenger. Yes, the Avengers lost thanks to Thanos’ Time Stone shenanigans but it’s very clear that her actions were nothing short of heroic, showing how far she’s come since the events of Ultron when she was scared to fight Ultron’s bots.
2019 Scarlet Witch
When Maximoff was brought back from the dead in Avengers: Endgame she had only one thing on her mind; revenge! Thanos would turn out to be no match for the VERY furious Avenger who was ready to display just how powerful she was.
So, which version of Scarlet Witch have you loved the most? For me, my clear favorite is 2019 Scarlet Witch. My admiration of her character coincides with her growth in power and seeing her take on Thanos with such, well, strength and power was just…mind-blowing. She’s actually become one of my favorite Avengers because she is so powerful and I can’t wait to see how her story evolves in the WandaVision series.
I can’t wait to hear your thoughts in the comments below.
I thank you for reading and I hope you have a spectacular day.
