The Next ‘Star Wars’ Film Is About to Make Black History

On Friday evening something happened that I thought I wouldn’t see for years. It was announced, thanks to Hollywood Reporter, that the next Star Wars movie will be written by J.D Dillard (Sleight) and Matt Owens (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.DLuke Cage). Both of these men are African-American.

My mind was blown. For so many years I have ached to see a Star Wars movie told from the perspective of a person of color. Now, it seems, that dream will finally come true.

The film’s details have not been confirmed yet but there’s a rumor that the new film could be set on the Sith Planet of Exegol, which could potentially provide much-needed answers to the storyline of Palpatine and the Empire’s secret revival on the creepy planet.

And what is not certain as of right now is whether the film will be available to watch in cinemas or exclusively on Disney+. Whatever the case, this is exciting news, and I am ready for all of it.

What an announcement for Black History Month. Wow.

I thank you for reading and I hope you have a lovely day. May the Force be with you.

      1. He’s become my favorite character in the sequel trilogy, that’s how much I loved his arc. I mean, he has the Force now! Don’t waste this amazing opportunity, Disney.
