Movie Review Flashback: Netflix Delights With Two Original Movies

Last night after watching the premiere of American Ninja Warrior I was bored and desperate for a new movie to watch and so I went browsing on Netflix and I ultimately came across two Netflix Original Movies that were not only really fun to watch but actually very entertaining as well. So for all of you fellow Netflix subscribers and movie lovers I’m here to provide you spoiler-free reviews on these two original films.

True Memoirs of an International Assassin

If you love action movies and you love the comedian, Kevin James, this is a film worth watching for so many reasons. One, it’s got humor which is always a plus. Secondly, it’s surprisingly enjoyable if you’re just bored and needing a decent movie to satiate the new movie thirst. And three, it keeps you on your toes from beginning to end.

Kevin James’ character, Sam, is an aspiring author who writes a fictional story about an assassin and his top secret missions but when his publisher takes his story and spruces up the tale by tweaking the title and calling it “True” Memoirs of an International Assassin rather than its original title (Memoirs of an International Assassin) a lot of trouble and unwanted attention comes Sam’s way and he partakes in a non-stop adventure that’s truly exciting from beginning to end.

It’s also an entirely family-friendly movie with the exception of a bit of cursing and some violence but besides that there’s nothing inappropriate about this film whatsoever which is always refreshing. What would I give the movie, you might ask? I’d give 3.5 out of 5 stars and 84 out of a 100. It wasn’t the greatest action movie I’ve ever seen but it was very, very enjoyable indeed. Definitely take a look at it if you ever get the chance.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny

If you love kung-fu movies then this is definitely one to watch. I watched this after True Memoirs of an International Assassin and it immediately grabbed my attention simply because the cinematography and locations were so enrapturing. I had also never really seen a kung-fu movie that highlighted awesome female warriors so that was another thing that immediately caught my attention as well.

If you’re looking for a kung-fu movie with a compelling this movie doesn’t exactly fit into that wheelhouse. The characters are interesting and the overall story is easy to follow but it’s definitely not one of the greatest stories ever told. My main enjoyment from the film was all of the action scenes because who doesn’t love watching people perform incredible martial art stunts? I know I do. And it was also great seeing Donnie Yen (Chirrut Imwe from Rogue One) in a film being rather awesome with his martial arts skills again. It’s not the best movie I’ve ever seen but it is definitely worth the watch if you’re bored.

I’d also give this film 3.5 out of 5 stars and 85 out of a 100. This is also another movie that’s incredibly family-friendly throughout its entirety. There’s a brief moment of nudity as you see the bare back of a woman walking to sit in a bath but besides that there’s absolutely nothing in the film other than violence.

So this was my experience watching two original Netflix movies. I can’t wait to find some more Netflix films to review in the future. I thank you for reading and I hope you have a wonderful day.
