I will be the first to tell you, I’m a Disney fanatic and that means I LOVE the songs as well. I know a whole bunch of them, I love to memorize them and sing them while doing household activities, and I just simply love Disney songs.
Frozen and Frozen II has some of the best songs in the franchise, surprisingly rivaling even the songs of the classic animated Disney movies with tunes that feel modern, powerful, and beautiful/fun to listen to. After my second viewing of Frozen II the other day I knew I had to share with you my favorite songs from both films. So, with no further delay, here’s my ranking.
5. In Summer
Frozen and Frozen II have powerful and often dramatic songs that harbor a sense of sadness mingled with hope but Olaf’s songs are simply fun and funny and sometimes that’s all you need.
4. When I Am Older
Olaf is hilarious and this song only reiterates why. Olaf, thankfully, is given another song in the Frozen sequel and it delivers!
3. Into the Unknown
Into the Unknown is captivating, well-written, and is worth memorizing and singing along but…it even isn’t the best song in Frozen II, which is almost surprising. The siren’s call is hypnotic and astonishingly beautiful, adding depth to this song that it desperately needs. Yes, it may have been the song nominated for Best Original Song (and rightfully so) but it is no stretch in the imagination better than these next two songs.
2. Let It Go
I would never have thought that Let It Go would be dethroned but it actually has met its match. Let It Go, of course, is an extraordinary song with a powerful message of self-love and no longer be afraid of your true self but it is seven years old and I’ve heard it dozens of times. Maybe that’s the reason why I have it at #2 on this list but I just feel like this next song is ridiculously beautiful, word-wise, visually, and soundwise. It’s phenomenal.
1. Show Yourself
And that “phenomenal” song is this one. With a stellar performance by Idina Menzel and Evan Rachel Wood, “Show Yourself” soars in ways I haven’t heard most Disney songs reach. Elsa’s story is so beautiful but is fraught with uncertainty. At this moment, during the four and a half minutes this song plays out, you are sucked into an utterly gorgeous and riveting story that unfolds impeccably. I’m not going to lie, it got to my emotions a bit.
(Of course, the best two songs belong to Elsa.)
And that’s why this has now become my favorite song from the Frozen films. Gosh, I hope they make a Frozen III. 🙂
