Should Joss Whedon Direct the ‘Fantastic Four’ Reboot?

Joss Whedon is one of the most recognized directors in Hollywood because he managed to bring to life something many Marvel fans probably thought they would never see on the big screen; The Avengers. He took six of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and made a quality film that still manages to impress to this day.

He only stepped away after Avengers: Age of Ultron received less than savory reviews and, being more than a little offended considering that he put a lot of heart and dedication into the movie, he couldn’t handle the pressure anymore. But now there are rumors going around that Joss Whedon could return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to direct another ensemble feature: Fantastic Four.

I, personally, think this would be a great idea. He did SUCH a great job with The Avengers and I have a feeling he could really bring to life these four characters who rightfully deserve a film as good as the likes of The Avengers.

What do you think? Should he return to direct Fantastic Four?

I thank you for reading and I hope you have a wonderful day.

  1. It’s hard to say. IMO, the most important character in Fantastic Four to get right is Doctor Doom. You can’t have a good Batman movie if you screw up the Joker, you can’t have a good Star Wars movie if you screw up Darth Vader, and you can’t have a good FF movie if you screw up Doctor Doom. And it’s going to be hard to get him right, because he’s possibly the most complex villain Marvel has. And the whole “ruler of Latveria” thing is going to be hard to sell in this setup. Then again… if they can do Thanos without Death, maybe they can do Doom and have him ruling a believable Latveria.

    1. I don’t know thing about Doctor Doom and Latveria but judging how Marvel Studios has managed to handle these villains, specifically the complex ones like Loki, Thanos, and Erik Killmonger, I’m confident that they can make the best Fantastic Four movie ever made.

    2. Oh I’m an MCU fan. It’s what some of the other licensed out stuff has done that I’m less fond of. All three Fantastic Four movies in the last 15 years were somewhere between mediocre to actively terrible, and the X-Men movies have been very hit and miss. The original Stewart/McKellen one was good, the second lost me as soon as they tried to tell me you could mind control two of the most powerful mutants in the world with an eyedropper full of whatever-that-was, and most of the ones since until the reboot were kinda bad. First Class was great, Days of Future Past was slightly less great, Apocalypse was kinda bad, and I haven’t made myself even watch Dark Phoenix yet.

But yes… topping the three existing modern FF movies would not be that hard.

      1. Yeah, the only X-Men movies I’ve dared to watch have been Days of Future Past and Logan. I refuse to watch the other bad ones. As a child I loved the first Fantastic Four movie (I’m not a fan anymore) but the other two are definitely superhero film garbage.

I’m glad to hear you’re a fellow MCU fan. I love this franchise because they continue to evolve and make the movies/characters better. The proof: Thor. His first two movies were horrible, bogged down by an obligation to try to keep Jane Foster in his story. They got rid of her, cut his hair, destroyed his hammer, and boom, suddenly he was a hero worth loving with a movie worth watching multiple times.

        I love the MCU!
