‘The Princess Bride’ Is Hilarious

I’ve heard about The Princess Bride for as long as I can remember but it wasn’t until it became available to watch on Disney+ that I decided to give the film a look. Turns out, it was worth the watch.

With the hilarious goofiness of a fairy tale designed for young children with the romanticism of a romance novel, The Princess Bride is a film unlike any that I’ve seen before.

Undoubtedly, my favorite character in the movie was Inigo Montoya with his heroic disposition and his mission to avenge his father. He was utterly hilarious, leaving me in stitches on several occasions. Of course, Westley was rather funny too with his laughable chatter that had my sister and I looking at one another wondering what the world he was talking about.

All in all, it’s a movie that I’m glad I watched and I’ll definitely watch it again in the future. I’ll give this film 95 out of 100 and 4.5 out of 5 stars.

I thank you for reading and I hope you have a great day.

  1. Full disclosure: in online geek terms, I’m old as dirt. I consider it a pride point that I’ve seen every Star Wars movie in their original theatrical run. Princess Bride was one of my teen favorites. There are so many classic scenes — the “I am not left handed” duel between Inigo and Westley, the iocane powder showdown with Vizzini, Billy Crystal’s Miracle Max, Inigo finally running down Count Rugen — that it’s frankly slept on as one of the best fantasy movies of the 80s. We wouldn’t know who Cary Elwes is if it weren’t for this movie. It’s an awesome movie from end to end and really has no serious flaws.

Now that I’ve said that, no one will ever convince me that the “Mountain vs Viper” fight in GoT wasn’t a direct result of GRRM watching the Inigo-Rugen duel and going, “you know… Inigo really shouldn’t have won that fight, I’m gonna reboot it in my books and ‘fix’ that.”

      1. It takes a strong stomach to watch GoT. A lot of people don’t get past one particular episode. I won’t spoil it for you by telling you which one. You’ll know it when you see it. That said, it’s a very good series overall.
