Throwback Friday: Ranking All of the Christopher Nolan Movies I’ve Seen; from least Favorite to Favorite

Considering that TENET‘s official trailer has just come out, here’s my ranking of every Nolan movie that I’ve seen. Enjoy!

Christopher Nolan is one of my favorite director/writers in Hollywood. His movies have fascinated me over the years with their bold storytelling, trippy concepts, and dazzling plot twists that have managed to make each of his films that I have seen not only extremely enjoyable but very memorable as well.

7. The Dark Knight Rises

I love The Dark Knight trilogy. They are easily some of the best superhero movies ever made with complex storylines and fascinating characters played by brilliant actors. Unfortunately, The Dark Knight Rises was a bit too eloquent for its own good. With a two hour and forty-four-minute runtime, this film drags along, slowly building up to a mediocre final confrontation between the good guys versus the bad guys. While the movie is still better than most films it’s nowhere near as good as its two predecessors or the other Christopher Nolan movies. Hence, it’s my least favorite.

6. Dunkirk

Dunkirk was AMAZING at the movie theaters in the brilliant format of IMAX, it totally deserved its eight Oscar nominations, including getting nominated for Best Picture and Best Director, but it isn’t one of my favorite Christopher Nolan films simply because without the brilliant booms and scenes made all the more riveting by IMAX this film is actually kind of boring. Back and forth the film’s story jumps between 1 hour, 1 day, and 1 week, leaving me utterly confused and still wondering just how everything transpired in the way that it did. But it is a really good film, as all Christopher Nolan movies are.

5. The Prestige

The Prestige is a dark, twisted story about the rivalry between two magicians as they each try to outdo the other with their magic tricks. The movie starts kind of slow and confusingly and then gradually builds upon itself a riveting storyline that is both thrilling yet disturbing at the same time. The Prestige is easily one of the best stories that I have ever seen but I probably won’t watch it again simply because the movie managed to kind of freak me out. But it’s a GREAT movie that deserves to be watched.

4. Batman Begins

I love Batman Begins. There’s something about this film that just makes me…happy. Maybe it’s the fact that Christian Bale is such an awesome Batman, maybe it’s the villains, or maybe it’s the music. Whatever the case, Batman Begins is easily one of my favorite superhero movies of all time.

3. Inception

Inception is movie gold. It tells a compelling story that’s unlike anything else that’s ever been made, the plot twists are riveting, and the film’s conclusion has still left me in quite a doozy. I still haven’t definitively figured out whether he was out of the dream or not and I love that. This is a truly outstanding film.

2.  The Dark Knight

The Dark Knight is one of those movies that catches you by surprise. I always knew The Dark Knight was a good movie but I had no clue it was a GREAT movie. Wow, wow, wow. The plot twists are phenomenal, Joker is a perfectly disturbing antagonist that really is a thorn in Batman’s side, the story of Harvey Dent turning into Two-Face is perfection, and even though Maggie Gyllenhaal replaced Katie Holmes as Rachel the difference doesn’t even matter because she did such a good job playing the role. All in all, The Dark Knight is one of my favorite movies of all time and definitely one of the best Christopher Nolan films as well.

1. Interstellar

interstellar

Interstellar is one of those movies that you think is going to be a boring movie but turns out to be an absolute masterpiece. I still believe Interstellar should’ve at least been nominated for Best Picture in 2014 and Matthew McConaughey and Jessica Chastain should’ve been nominated for Best Actor and Best Actress because they did an AMAZING job in this film. Oh my goodness, I love this movie so much. It’s definitely, in my opinion, one of the best movies ever made.

Well, this is how I rank all of the Christopher Nolan movies that I’ve seen so far. I cannot wait to see TENET. If it is as good or better than the trailers it’s going to be another knockout.

What’s your favorite Christopher Nolan movie? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.

I thank you for reading and I hope you have an amazing day.
