(This is a post I forgot I wrote years ago so…I wanted to reshare it with you. Enjoy!)
I love Star Wars for so many reasons. I love the stories, I love the action, I love the environment, and I absolutely love the characters. And of course, each character has their own special style and part of that style is their hair. So, on that note, here are my six favorite Star Wars hairstyles.
6. Qui-Gon Jin
Qui-Gon is cool for so many different reasons and one of those reasons is his impeccable hairstyle. First of all, it’s totally a look that I would imagine a Jedi Master having. It’s simple yet elegant in a way, it has this kind of Samurai warrior vibe which is totally sensible considering that George Lucas’s inspiration for the Jedi was from Samurai, and it perfectly defines Qui-Gon. He’s also the only character in Star Wars, so far, with a hairstyle like this. Now I think Rey is going to go a little Qui-Gon on everyone with her new look but that’s a whole other topic.
However, at the moment Qui-Gon Jin has the coolest hairstyle as a Jedi so far.
The Three Knobs has already become an iconic staple in the cinematic world because of its avant-garde look. I love this hairstyle for so many reasons. First of all, it’s practical because she’s a scavenger, in the desert. She can’t have a fancy hairstyle in Jakku of all places. Secondly, it’s different and immediately identifies Rey as a new character in the Star Wars universe. No other character in Star Wars has a hairstyle like hers and that instantly makes her special. And third, those buns are incredible. The fact that she does so many physical things like running and fighting and those buns never come out is a feat in itself.
4. Jyn Erso
One of my favorite things about Jyn Erso is her hairstyle. Just like the movie, it’s rugged and it’s perfectly practical for Jyn throughout the movie. Can you imagine her traipsing around the film with some sort of fancy braid or something like that? That would not work. And before she even says anything in the movie her hairstyle defines her character by illustrating that she’s not a prissy lady, not in the slightest. She doesn’t care about her hair looking good and she’s ready to tussle if need be. That’s why this is one of my favorite hairstyles.
3. Padme Amidala
Padme Amidala has so many beautiful hairstyles I could go on and on about all of them but my favorite of hers is this one. It’s very avant-garde and really is incredible. Ever since I was a little girl I used to look at this hairstyle in awe. I love the headpiece and the halo of hair. One thing I have to commend George Lucas is his worlds and the looks in those worlds.
Take Naboo for example. The sheer gorgeousness of the planet, the cities, and the way the characters dress is fascinating. In the new movies that is the one thing that is missing. There aren’t any absolutely beautiful worlds or costumes or that are simply stunning. Hopefully, the addition of Canto Bight will change that.
2. Princess Leia
Yes, this isn’t my number one hairstyle but it is rather awesome. It gave Princess Leia a royal feel yet it’s just as practical as Rey or Jyn’s hairstyle. And what makes this hairstyle even cooler is the fact that it was inspired by Native American women. How much more special can this hairstyle get?
I remember when I was a little girl I used to always try to recreate the cinnamon buns and I did a decent job. Unfortunately, they were always a little lopsided. But that’s how much I like this hairstyle. I don’t try to recreate looks from movies but this one was worth it.
1. Kylo Ren
Kylo Ren is already a cool character but his hairstyle was so amazing in The Force Awakens that it’s my favorite hairstyle out of everybody in Star Wars. Now, how could such a plain hairstyle be my favorite? Well, this is why.
I remember sitting in that dark theater watching The Force Awakens for the first time and Rey had been captured, she was being interrogated by Kylo Ren, and he was about to reveal his face for the first time. I just knew he was going to look very ugly and evil-looking like Palpatine but instead he looked like this.
He was young and not evil-looking in the slightest. And his hair was absolutely impeccable! You would think he would have helmet hair but instead, he had the exact opposite. His hair was perfectly curled and moussed, it was like there were a brush and conditioner inside that mask of his. And his hair is the same black complexion as his clothes and it perfectly frames his slender face.
This is my favorite hairstyle because he’s the villain and he literally has the best hair out of anyone in the film. That is unheard of. It also makes sense though, I mean he’s the son of Han Solo and General Leia, his hair should look pretty incredible.
I thank you for reading and I hope you have a wonderful day.
