I’m trying to watch as many of the classic musicals as possible and on my movie quest yesterday I happened upon Fiddler on the Roof, a film my mother has talked about for years. I decided to sit back, relax, and watch it and it was definitely unlike what I expected.
John Williams would go on to win his first Oscar for the musical score of this film and deservedly so. The music was delightful and most of the songs were particularly fascinating. I particularly loved “Tradition” which had several iterations throughout the film and had me smiling and laughing.
Is Fiddler on the Roof one of the best musicals I’ve seen? Definitely, but I’m not sure I’ll ever watch it again. Maybe I will, in the future. It actually started putting me to sleep after a while. Lol.
All in all, I’ll give this movie 4 out of 5 stars and 94 out of 100. It’s not a bad movie but it definitely doesn’t reach the joy I obtain from musicals like The Wizard of Oz or The Sound of Music.
I thank you for reading and I hope you have a spectacular day.
