A Movie Ranking: Chris Pratt

I had never heard anything about Chris Pratt until The Lego Movie. Suddenly, I was introduced to this hilarious actor who was not only a great voice actor but would turn out to play one of my surprise favorite superheroes too. So, for this week’s A Movie Ranking, I thought it would be fun to highlight him. Enjoy!

9. Onward

Julia Louis-Dreyfus, John Ratzenberger, Tracey Ullman, Mychael Danna, Jeff Danna, Wilmer Valderrama, Catherine Apple, Sharon Calahan, Grey Griffin, Chris Pratt, Kori Rae, Mel Rodriguez, Dan Scanlon, Octavia Spencer, Keith Bunin, Kyle Bornheimer, Noah Klocek, Lena Waithe, Adam Habib, Jason Headley, Tom Holland, Ali Wong, and George Psarras in Onward (2020)

I do NOT like this movie. I repeat. I do NOT like this movie. It was SOO annoying, so predictable, and by the film’s conclusion, I was just peeved.

Plus, despite clearly loving Pratt and Tom Holland for their roles in the MCU, I found them to be ultra annoying in this movie as elf brothers, Ian and Barley Lightfoot.

8. The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part

Will Arnett, Elizabeth Banks, Charlie Day, Nick Offerman, Chris Pratt, Alison Brie, Tiffany Haddish, and Stephanie Beatriz in The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part (2019)

While The Lego Movie was so hilarious and really innovative/original its sequel would be another film to suffer the sequel curse. I tried to get into this brand new story and ended up very disinterested. And even though Chris Pratt voiced two characters in this movie, Emmet Brickowski, and Rex Dangervest, his hilariousness could not ultimately save this film.

7. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

Bryce Dallas Howard and Chris Pratt in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018)

Despite how ridiculous Jurassic Park III can be this is the worst installment in the Jurassic franchise because this movie is BORING. The ultra-dinosaur that the villainous scientists have concocted could have been truly frightening if it hadn’t been forced to continuously be seconds away from killing the protagonists only to meet some random obstacle to prevent the heroes from dying.

It was just a bad movie and the only good part of the film is the movie’s very last scene where we see that dinosaurs have now inhabited the mainland. That bodes (hopefully) a fascinating storyline for Jurassic World: Dominion.

6. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

I was really hoping this sequel would be worth the three-year wait. It turned out to be a disappointing film, providing nothing besides visual eye candy to deliver any joy. Now, to be fair, the first couple of times I watched this movie I liked it but now…ugh, I’m just not a fan. But…if I’m being honest…I have still seen this film over six times.

5. The Lego Movie

Morgan Freeman, Will Ferrell, Will Arnett, Elizabeth Banks, Charlie Day, Nick Offerman, Chris Pratt, Cobie Smulders, Channing Tatum, Alison Brie, and Jonah Hill in The Lego Movie (2014)

I still remember seeing The Lego Movie for the first time in the movie theaters. It was the hardest I had ever laughed in a theater. As someone who has always thought Legos are goofy, this was like a dream come true brought to the big screen.

Chris Pratt brought such lovable enthusiasm and naivety to this character that it was impossible not to love the yellow-faced Lego. This movie set up a bunch of Lego sequels that wouldn’t be as great as this but I still thank Phil Lord and Christopher Miller for bringing this beauty to life.

4. Jurassic World

Chris Pratt in Jurassic World (2015)

No, Jurassic World is not better than Jurassic Park but it sure is fun to watch too. The characters aren’t as engaging as the characters in the film that begin this franchise in 1993 but clearly, the most interesting (and less annoying) character is Chris Pratt’s Owen Grady.

At the time, Chris Pratt was becoming a bonafide action star. People were even starting to regard him as the next Harrison Ford which is quite the compliment.

3. Guardians of the Galaxy

Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, and Dave Bautista in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)

Guardians of the Galaxy was the movie that introduced the world to Chris Pratt in mainstream media. I had never seen this guy before but as soon as he appeared dancing to “Come and Get Your Love” at the beginning of this movie I was locked in.

Chris Pratt embodies the goofy/kind-of-egotistical/surprisingly-heroic personality of Peter Quill so impeccably that I can’t imagine anyone else playing the character. He really did a great job being the lead in a movie that could’ve easily flopped but Kevin Feige is a genius and he knows what works.

2. Avengers: Endgame

Avengers: Endgame is an emotionally impactful and satisfying finale, giving us nearly every storyline we could’ve wanted. Chris Pratt doesn’t play a major role in the movie but when he does show up he does manage to bring the laughs, as always.

1. Avengers: Infinity War

Avengers: Infinity War is a gem among superhero films. It gave us a storyline that no one quite expected, it provided some of the best character interactions in the MCU, and yeah, Peter Quill will always be memorable in this movie because of the very simple fact that he ruined his own plan to stop Thanos! Hilarious.

Well, that’s my movie ranking. I thank you for reading and I hope you have a wonderful day.
