Steve Rogers turned on the television, his eyebrows furrowed as he hurriedly filtered through the stations until he found a news channel. The headlines read: EUROPE FALLS UNDER ATTACK BY WOMAN IN GOLDEN MASK.
Sharon Carter was already on the phone talking with her confidant, Baker.
“What’s going on?” she asked as she paced back and forth on the other side of the room. “Who is the woman in the golden mask?”
Meanwhile, Sam Wilson and Steve Rogers stared at the television screen as the British reporter spoke the news.
“Panic is spreading throughout Europe as our governments are being torn asunder by the terrorists who are being named on social media as The Horrors.”
A video showed five individuals clothed in black led by a single woman in white and a golden mask walking down a busy street filled with terrified bystanders.
“These six terrorists have singlehandedly taken over the eastern European countries in the last week and in their wake, gangs have taken over those decimated governments, sending the citizens into a desperate panic. This terror is spreading west through Europe at an accelerating pace, leaving many horrified. Where they’ve come from and why they can’t be stopped is not quite clear at the moment but evacuations have begun throughout Europe and travelers around the world have been informed to stay away.”
Steve turned off the television. Sam looked at him with a grim expression.
“Doesn’t look good,” Sam said.
Steve shook his head. “This is pretty bad.”
Sharon quickly joined their side as she got off of the phone. “I’ve got some information regarding the terrorists.” She looked at Steve. “It isn’t good.”
His temple knotted. “What do you mean?”
“Well, Baker was able to get some files. It turns out that the woman with the golden mask was working with HYDRA when Baron Strucker was working there. She managed to slip out of the authorities’ grasp over the years and now she’s returned with one plan in mind; taking over the world.”
“The classic bad guy,” Sam said, nodding his head.
Sharon turned to him. “It gets worse.” She averted her gaze back to Steve Rogers. “Turns out Deputy Task Force were busy confiscating all materials from the HYDRA headquarters where Barnes had been kept. She was seen there and she apparently found a way to revive the dead Winter Soldiers.”
Sam’s jaw dropped. Steve’s eyes widened.
“Oh god,” he whispered.
“Yeah.” She crossed her arms. “This is bad.”
Sam looked at Steve. “Remember what Barnes told us about those guys? They can take down a government in one night and no one would ever see them coming.”
Steve nodded. “Yeah, I remember. If it’s true that these are the Winter Soldiers Bucky was talking about…we’re going to need help.”
Sharon slightly smiled. “Natasha and Wanda.”
“How are we going to even find them? We can’t call them like we used to and they could be anywhere in the world?” Sam asked.
“I know how to get in contact with Wanda and I have an idea where Natasha could be,” Steve said.
“Then it’s settled,” Sharon said, clapping her hands. “We get everyone together in a disclosed location and then we figure out what to do next.”
Sam smiled. “Sounds good.”
Steve walked across the room, grabbed his denim jacket, threw on his boots, and headed to the door.
“Where are you going?” Sharon asked.
He turned to look back at her with one hand on the doorknob. “To find Natasha.”
With that, he left. Sam followed after him.
“Where are you going?” she asked him.
“I’m going to do more some more research,” he told her. “I’ll be back to tell you what I find.”
She nodded. “Fine. I’ll see you then.”
As the door shut behind her she sat down on the bed and sighed. She turned on the television and stared at the screen where the woman who was the leader of The Horrors resided in a slightly fuzzy picture. Chills ran down her spine as she stared at the woman’s features that looked so very much like her own.
“Why did you have to return to my life?” She continued to stare at the picture. “Olivia.”
