Counting Down my 20 Favorite Trailers: #6: ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’

Have you ever experienced a trailer that was lightning in a bottle? Well, that was my experience watching the teaser for Guardians of the Galaxy for the first time. I had no idea Marvel Studios was making a movie about these wacky band of misfits and so when the trailer started I was like, “What the world is this?” When the Marvel Studios logo appeared I got even more confused. And then…magic happened.

Here’s the trailer.

Let me take you through the delightful weirdness of seeing this trailer for the first time.

After the Marvel Studios logo disappears the trailer brilliantly displays to you the main cast of the story as we see them incarcerated. First we meet Drax, a shirtless, jacked grey and red dude who looked tough as nails. Second came Gamora, a green-skinned lady who looked she meant serious business. Next was Rocket, a raccoon who was behaving like a person, which was very strange at the time. And the weirdness didn’t even stop there. Then we have Groot, a giant humanoid tree creature. And last but not least, we get a bit more time with Star-Lord, a man with a rude sense of humor, lol.

After that I was totally hooked but it was the sequence after that with the weird chant, “Hooka-hooka-hooka-shakka” playing nonstop as clips of awesomeness flashed on the screen as these characters were displayed in all of their chaotic glory.

I still remember seeing the trailer turned off after seeing it for the first time. I turned to my father and sister and we looked at one another with wide eyes saying, “We’re going to go see that.” I’m so glad the movie did not disappoint!

Well, I’ve shared with you fifteen trailers that have dazzled me, sent chills down my spine, and made me the movie fan that I am, but it is these next five trailers starting tomorrow that have invoked real feeling in me. These trailers are more than just marketing pieces to get to want to watch a film. They are pieces of art woven together differently but with the same amount of impact. I can’t wait to share them with you.

I thank you for following this series and I can’t wait to show you #5 tomorrow. Have a glorious day.
