QI’RA: Chapter Forty-Four

Leaving Coruscant

Captain Peer couldn’t believe what had happened. Since the party the previous evening Crimson Dawn leader Qi’ra had nearly been assassinated, her bodyguard, the stern cyborg woman named T-38 was dead, and her top lieutenant was apparently the orchestrator of Qi’ra’s attempted assassination.

As he walked across the tarmac filled with Star Destroyers alongside a subtly seething Qi’ra he could only think of one thing to say: “I knew your top lieutenant was untrustworthy.”

She stopped, glaring at him with such intensity that he, for a second, thought she was going to unsheath the sword at her hip and kill him.

“Don’t you ever talk about my personal affairs in Crimson Dawn again,” she hissed through clenched teeth.

Visibly shaken he bowed his head. “I’m sorry, m’lady. I-I spoke out of turn.”

She continued on, heading to the Imperial shuttle that would take her back to Polaris. He remained rooted in place, his heart pounding as he realized that his insensitivity nearly got him killed.

“I will return,” Qi’ra announced, looking back at him, before boarding the shuttle.

He stepped back as the ship’s motor roared to life, blasting him with its power. He hurriedly grabbed his hat as it flew off his head, watching as the shuttle departed and headed to the hemisphere.

“What a lady,” he whispered, shaking his head appreciatively.
