‘Nobody’ Is a Classic Action Movie With a Fun Twist

Nobody isn’t the type of movie you haven’t seen before. The story feels like John Wick (an unassuming guy gets his life upended and turns into an invincible super-killing machine) and Taken (the “unassuming guy” is an old popular male actor, this being Bob Odenkirk) have been mashed together, taking the best of both worlds and making it fun.

This isn’t surprising considering that the screenwriter who wrote Nobody is Derek Kolstad, the man who actually created John Wick and gave us one of the greatest action franchises of all time with one of Hollywood’s true action stars, Keanu Reeves.

Nobody Movie Quotes - Funtastic Life

The film can be funny at times, if you’re a fan of extremely violent action sequences like John Wick this movie will satisfy that yearning, and the main character is likable enough where you want to root for him. Heck, I want Odenkirk in a Marvel film, he was that awesome. But unlike John Wick which finds a way to take itself very seriously from start to finish, Nobody gets a bit lost in the weeds with a predictable Russian antagonist who has a not-that-mighty miniature army and a storyline that gets a bit too on the nose and corny in the end.

I Know I Keep Saying It but ‘Mission: Impossible-Fallout’ Is a Great Movie

If you’ve read my blog recently you will know that Mission: Impossible-Fallout was my favorite film of 2018 and for good reason. Yes, there were fantastic films like Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity WarSolo: A Star Wars Story and A Quiet Place, but this latest Misson: Impossible movie stood out among its great-movie-brethren because it was, in a word, amazing. From beginning to end this movie sends its viewers on a rollercoaster ride unlike any other with twists and turns, dips and dives, and by the film’s conclusion it leaves you breathless but wanting more.

After obtaining it on Blu-Ray I had a fetish for the film, watching it over and over again because I just couldn’t get enough. I even revisited the two films before it–Ghost Protocol and Rogue Nation–because I was enjoying the franchise so much. Then I got tired and stopped watching it for a little while…until last night.

I was bored, I needed a good movie to watch, and as I rummaged through films on Hulu there was nothing that looked appealing. Bing, goes the lightbulb above my head. I’ll watch Mission: Impossible-Fallout, I say to myself. And I did. And yet again I was blown away.

I know I’ve said it time and time again but this movie is perfect. It really is. Why is it perfect you may ask? Well, I’ll give a quick rundown on the reason why this is clearly one of the best action films of all time.

Movie Spotlight: ‘Last Action Hero’

It’s Saturday and it’s always fun on the weekends to watch a great movie. Now, more than ever, as we must find time indoors due to COVID-19. Each Saturday I’m going to share a film that has managed to impress me in all possible facets as that week’s Movie of the Week and for this first segment of this brand new series I have picked Last Action Hero, the best highly underrated Arnold Schwarzenegger film of all time.

I have seen this movie at least four times and with every viewing, I have a smile on my face, I hear a new joke, notice a new thing and am always covered in goosebumps and ridiculously pleased by the film’s conclusion. Here is the film’s synopsis.

With the help of a magic ticket, a young movie fan is transported into the fictional world of his favorite action movie character. Continue reading Movie Spotlight: ‘Last Action Hero’

‘Hobbs and Shaw’ Is a Fun Action Movie

I keep saying it time and time again, I wasn’t into the Fast and Furious franchise until The Fate of the Furious. Yeah, you diehard fans may have your favorite installment in the franchise but that was the first one that made me say, “Okay, this is pretty good.” And in the film, you have the lovable relationship between Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) and Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham.) Together, they make a fun experience as they talk cold smack to one another as they kick butt and save the world.

This is taken up a notch in Hobbs and Shaw as their lovable banter permeates the story in a really comedic and lovable way. But beyond the actual laugh-out-loud humor, this is a straight-up classic action movie with plenty of explosions, car chases, and lots and lots of hand-to-hand smackdown. Plus, you’ve got the cool heroes who you can’t help rooting for and the equally cool villain that brings everything into place. Continue reading ‘Hobbs and Shaw’ Is a Fun Action Movie

‘John Wick: Chapter 3-Parabellum’ Is a Truly Fantastic Action Movie

I love a good action movie and John Wick: Chapter 3-Parabellum is undoubtedly one of the best I’ve seen.

A couple of years ago I watched John Wick: Chapter 2 and it wasn’t bad but I wasn’t thoroughly impressed. I only watched half of the film and never chose to finish it. Parabellum never suffers from a boring plot or lack of action sequences. The stunts in this movie are phenomenal, the characters were exceptional, and boy, was it everything I wanted and more.

Let me warn you though, John Wick: Chapter 3 is not for the faint of heart.

The Official Trailer for ‘No Time to Die’ Has Arrived

Yesterday, the teaser trailer for Black Widow arrived, wowing fans with its Bourne-level, Captain America: The Winter Soldier vibes. Plus, finally seeing a movie that focuses on one of the coolest superheroes ever brought to the big screen is rewarding in itself. Now, the next James Bond movie to arrive since 2015’s Spectre has finally released its trailer, a trailer that, if anything, is action-packed. Check it out.

While the trailer delivers plenty of action and looks at the new characters, specifically Lashana Lynch’s newcomer Nomi, I found the trailer to be okay.

There’s a lot of information in this trailer, including what seems to be scenes from the final battle between Bond and his new white-mask wearing nemesis. Of course, because this is an official trailer and not a teaser, it makes sense that there’s more information being thrown at us but overall, for Bond fans, I’m sure this trailer will entice you.

I thank you for reading and I hope you have a lovely day.
