Have You Seen ‘The Upside’?

If you like comedies and you like sappy feel-good movies this is one to watch. I’m telling you, three years ago my family and I saw the commercials. We knew it had the potential to be a really great film. Because I don’t want to share too much of the story here’s the film’s synopsis. (By the way, it’s based on a true story.)

A comedic look at the relationship between a wealthy man with quadriplegia and an unemployed man with a criminal record who’s hired to help him.

Sure enough, last night on a beautiful Saturday evening, we got the chance to finally watch it. And yeah, we were in tears throughout the movie.

Kevin Hart and Bryan Cranston, two naturally funny guys, had remarkable chemistry in this movie that was unexpected but totally worked at the same time. You almost get the feeling that they really did have a whole heck of a lot of fun making this movie and it shows.

The writing is phenomenal, straying from being too cliche or slapstick and staying on the more serious and emotionally impactful side of things.

I have to say, this is another must-watch. Once again, I’m straying from details because the movie will really surprise in a whole lot of ways. And yeah, the film’s pretty predictable at times, but it’s a good kind of predictable.

Forget Green Book. This is the type of feelgood movie that’s worth watching.

I’m giving this movie a solid 95 out of 100 and 4.5 out of 5 stars. It moved me and is undoubtedly the best Kevin Hart film I’ve seen.

I thank you for reading and I hope you have a lovely day.

The 15 Funniest Marvel Jokes

(I just recently ran into this post I wrote on June 4 of this year and I loved reading it so much I had to reshare it for you all. Enjoy!)

Marvel Studios has made twenty-two films so far. Many of them are epic masterpieces that manage to blow our minds in some capacity but there’s also a levity to these films that make them so enjoyable. Take Guardians of the Galaxy for example. It’s practically a comedy but with enticing characters and a riveting storyline, it turns into a superhero film you can’t help but love.

Throughout the MCU there are many hilarious jokes and here I’m going to list my fifteen favorite ones.

(This is a long read.)

15. Dance Off to Save the Universe

The Battle of Xandar is a pretty intense showdown as the Guardians of the Galaxy, the Ravagers, and the Xandarian army come together to try to stop Ronan’s madness but to no avail. Just when it seems that all hope is lost what do these galactic heroes do? It’s totally left field and a true stroke of genius from James Gunn as Peter Quill challenges Ronan to a dance-off. And it’s also brilliant because Ronan is just as confused as the rest of us.

This part has made me laugh since the first time I saw it, making it easily one of the funniest moments in the MCU.

Here’s a List of all of the Names Rocket Has Been Called

Rocket has evolved into one of my favorite characters in the MCU over the course of his four movies but one of the reasons I love him so much is the comedy relief he can bring to these films.

Rocket is a strange dude. I mean, he’s a raccoon for crying out loud. But there’s a recurring joke created on his expense as characters who meet him for the first time name him a different animal every time. It’s absolutely hilarious and so today I wanted to list all of the names and the exchanges (that I can remember) so far. Enjoy!

Star-Lord: “I’ve had a lot of people try to kill me over the year. I ain’t about to be brought down by a tree and a talking raccoon.”

Rocket: “What’s a raccoon?”

Star-Lord: “What’s a raccoon? It’s what you are, stupid.”

Lol. Hilarious.

Throwback Friday: Is Comedy Marvel’s Secret Sauce or a Hindrance?

I love Marvel movies. They have provided me SO much happiness in the past six years and I kind of can’t imagine a movie year without a Marvel blockbuster being in the mix. So, a couple of days ago, I watched Captain America: The Winter Soldier–’cause I haven’t watched it in a long while–and I truly forgot how much I love that movie. It’s such a perfectly made film with so many unexpected twists and turns (Nick Fury’s “death,” Steve Rogers becoming a fugitive, Secretary Pierce being the main villain, the Winter Soldier turned out to be Captain America’s friend, Bucky, etc.) and it’s one of the least funny installments in the Marvel franchise and yet it’s one of my favorite Marvel movies. So that brings me to the question of this post; Is Comedy Marvel’s Secret Sauce or a Hindrance?

Before I give an answer let’s compare some of Marvel’s greatest movies.

‘Seinfeld’ vs. ‘The Office’: Which Comedy Is Better?

I love comedies. A show that can make me laugh and nearly use the bathroom on myself at certain occasions is a show worth watching, in my opinion. I’ve loved comedies ever since I was a child as I watched The King of Queens or I Love Lucy. Those shows made (and still make) me happy in a way that not a lot of things can. Two new comedies I’ve just recently acquired myself with however have been Seinfeld and The Office.

My mother has been telling me how hilarious Seinfeld is for years but I just never got the urge to watch it. And then one day I watched an episode and I was instantly hooked. With characters as hilarious as Kramer and Costanza, how can you not love the show?

And then there is The Office which I have literally just discovered this week. My parents were telling me how they loved watching The Office every week and when I finally got to see an episode I was instantly riveted. It was so funny that I couldn’t handle it, in a good way. And, thanks to Netflix, I’m currently binge-watching all nine seasons. 🙂

But, which of these two hilarious comedies is better? That is the ultimate question that I keep asking myself and honestly, it almost feels unfair to place one above the other.

They’re both so different and yet equally brilliant. Seinfeld is the epitome of slapstick humor. And The Office feels like we are getting a window into the real-life shenanigans of the workplace.

From a writing standpoint, I’d give The Office an edge because it actually is a story that is transpiring but in terms of utter hilarity, I’d give Seinfeld the upper hand. And isn’t that the point. These are comedies and comedies’ quality should be based on how funny they are.

So, on that note, I guess I’m giving the trophy to Seinfeld. While I LOVE The Office for all the above reasons I have to think with my head rather than my heart and in terms of iconic moments in pop culture Seinfeld has many while The Office doesn’t.

Which of these comedies do you think is better? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.

I thank you for reading and I hope you have a beautiful day.
