Movie Review Flashback: ‘TENET’: A Nonsensical Masterpiece

With Tenet now available for the masses on HBO Max, here’s my review.

Christopher Nolan is known for making movies with trippy plotlines that are hard to grasp but nice to look at and yet TENET makes Inception look like an Avengers movie.

TENET is incredible for all of its spectacle and seat-rumbling (due to its incredible sound in IMAX) glory but what it has in sheer eye-widening visuals it lacks in cohesive storytelling. Literally, I didn’t know what was going on from the very beginning.

The movie moves at such a breakneck speed from the get go that you can’t figure out what in the heck is happening, not to mention that the movie is so loud you can’t hear what people are saying when it seems that they’re uttering a crucial detail to the ever-changing plot of the movie.

Nolan has created a puzzle that runs forwards and backwards, literally, and his time inversion heist save-the-world-from-doomsday-semi-love story movie is just…whoa. It’s a lot!

Watching ‘TENET’ For the Second Time

Okay, TENET is officially Christopher Nolan’s most mind-numbing film. I watched it for the second time yesterday and as I left my local movie theater with yet another headache there was a sense of glee considering that I was able to understand about 65% of the movie this time around. However, the film’s convoluted plot and brain-shattering sound still left crucial plot points vaguely comprehensible, leaving me still scratching my head and wondering just exactly what the heck just happened.

I honestly feel the exact same as I did last time, even with more information lodged in my brain. The Protagonist and Neil are still my favorite movie duo of all time, the movie is still a jaw-dropping spectacle that is worth the price of admission, but Nolan’s inflated genius for this one is ultimately what keeps it from being a legendary blockbuster.

‘TENET’ Gets an Official Trailer

If there is only one movie I can watch this year it would be TENET. Christopher Nolan doesn’t make movies very often and when he does you better watch it.

When I went to watch The Rise of Skywalker there was a special IMAX sneak peek of the film and it’s safe to say, my family and I were blown away. That alone was worth the price of admission. Last night, the official trailer dropped and I’m expectedly blown away by this intriguingly strange concept of a summer blockbuster. Here’s the official trailer.

Okay. I’ve decided to only watch this trailer once so I can go into the film as dark about the film’s plot as possible but I do know this, it’s going to be awesome!!!

John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Kenneth Branagh? Gosh, I’m excited to see this. Step aside InceptionTENET is here to take your crown.

I thank you for reading and I hope you have a great day.
