Episode X: The Reckoning: Chapter Forty-Eight

Fate worked in mysterious ways. Some called it the Force. Some called it destiny. But it was undoubtedly a mystical power that bound everything together.

Maz Kanata had never felt more wowed by the extent of this power than now.

Launching out of hyperspace, Carcuun lied before the Tantive IV. Once a serene world of roiling oceans and stony islands covered in towering skyscrapers, it was now a world blanketed by darkness with craggy mountains risen from the deep, turning the oceans into violent lakes riven with thrashing anger.

And there, on the cusp of the planet’s hemisphere, were two other ships; the one they had followed that Kanata believed Ora was piloting and another ship that Maz had never seen before. That is, until, the commlink beeped and she heard Poe Dameron’s voice over the line. Continue reading Episode X: The Reckoning: Chapter Forty-Eight

Ora ran as fast as she could. Even so, something deep inside was telling her that she wasn’t moving quickly enough.

Your father is in danger, the Force seemed to whisper in her ear.

She shook her head. No, she thought to herself. No.

And yet, the image showing her holding her dying father in her arms had been shown to her twice. She wanted to believe it was the dark side taunting her to want to go to the dark side but there was a truth to both of the visions that made her heart pound in her chest.

She exited the chamber, her new lightsaber blazing blue in the darkness. The sight before her sent sorrow coursing through her in jarring pangs. Continue reading Episode X: The Reckoning: Chapter Forty-Seven

Episode X: The Reckoning: Chapter Forty-Six

The mood in the Tolgan craft was grim. Yes, friends were reunited and a sense of comradery restored but a valuable member of the crew was gone. Really, really gone and he wasn’t coming back.

Keeli Calrissian strived to contain her composure. She knew what it felt like to lose someone she loved. She had lost both of her parents on the Day of Darkness when SHE had arrived and changed so many lives in an instant. For the next few years, she continued to fight but not without feeling the terrible strain of sorrow on her heart of their loss. John had been there to help her through her darkest times. He had promised to never leave her side and he had kept his promise.

And now, he was gone. Continue reading Episode X: The Reckoning: Chapter Forty-Six

Episode X: The Reckoning: Chapter Forty-Five

Ora didn’t quite know how to feel about her father’s words. She was still a bit shaken after their conversation about his past. Yes, her mother had told her of his past and shed grim glimpses of the sorrow he had spread but it never had felt as real as it did with him standing before her, broad-shouldered and wielding a blood-red lightsaber. She could imagine the horrors he had committed all too well and understood also too easily that she could easily fall to the same violent impulses.

“Don’t be afraid,” he, out of the blue, told her in the descending chamber.

She didn’t like the way he spoke those words. As if he knew something that she didn’t. Something that would happen that would test her. Continue reading Episode X: The Reckoning: Chapter Forty-Five

Episode X: The Reckoning: Chapter Forty-Four

Ben Solo had not thought about his past in a while. At least, he tried to forget his earlier days as an agent of the dark side existed. But Ora’s questions, her eyes that stared at him with such yearning for truth, as if willing him to say that everything her mother had told her was a lie, it had seared into his very being, reminding him of the ugliness and the regret of his younger years.

He didn’t want Ora to become like him. He had to make sure she was protected. That she wouldn’t use anger as a vent for her power. To use hatred to let herself be known, or heard. He wanted to let her know that everything would be okay. That the loss of her mother would not hurt her but help her. But he also knew, deep down, that he wouldn’t always be with her, and that was when she’d have the hardest time. Continue reading Episode X: The Reckoning: Chapter Forty-Four

Episode X: The Reckoning: Chapter Forty-Three

Trish was exhausted. Like, literally depleted of strength. Well, not physical strength. She could still easily take down a Gamorrean with her bare hands. But her mentals were tasked. Ever since they had crashed on this planet there had been nothing but trouble. And now she found herself staring at an entity she had only heard about and hoped she would never see; an All-Terrain-Annihilator.

“Why?” she whined. Continue reading Episode X: The Reckoning: Chapter Forty-Three
