An Updated Ranking: The Ten Most Awesome Women in ‘Star Wars’

When last I wrote this post The Last Jedi hadn’t even come out yet and I hadn’t seen Star Wars: Rebels yet. Over the past few years, women have become a central asset to the franchise in new, exciting ways. On the last day of January, I thought it would be fun to update this list and shine a new light on my ten favorite women in Star Wars so far.

10. Captain Phasma

Powerful, fierce, this chrome-domed villainess was everything the trilogy needed…and more. It’s sad that she met her demise in The Last Jedi but when she graced the screen her authority rang supreme. She was such a fascinating character. Continue reading An Updated Ranking: The Ten Most Awesome Women in ‘Star Wars’

Throwback Friday: ‘The Last Jedi’ Teaser Is Finally Here!!!

Two years ago my blog had only been around for a total of four months. At that time I didn’t write very often but one thing I definitely was going to write was my excitement for The Last Jedi teaser.

In just one week us Star Wars fans will get the chance to finally see legitimate footage of Episode IX and we’ll finally get to learn what the dang movie is going to be called. That’s a very exciting thought indeed.

So, in preparation for this weekly countdown, here’s a look back at my excitement when teaser for The Last Jedi dropped. Enjoy! 🙂

It has been almost a year and a half since The Force Awakens came out in the movies. Since its debut I have been so ready to find out what’s going on in this next installment. Last year we were introduced to the first anthology film in Star Wars which was Rogue One. Yes it was a fantastic movie and yes it is now my favorite Star Wars movie of all time (even now it’s still my favorite Star Wars movie) but it is nothing compared to my excitement for The Last Jedi. Well, the teaser, after this eternal wait is finally here. Enjoy!

I’ve Discovered A Secret Force Connection in ‘The Last Jedi’

Last night I watched The Last Jedi for the umpteenth time and as I was watching the scene where the First Order ambushes the unsuspecting Resistance I realized a fascinating discovery. Rian Johnson introduced us to new possibilities with the Force by creating Force connections, revealing the fact that Force ghosts can still do things in the tangible world like summon lightning, and Luke was able to project an image of himself across a galaxy. The Force connections were obviously one of the coolest ideas brought to the Star Wars universe as it opened ideas of how Force-wielders can interact with each other but while it seems like the only connections that transpired were between Kylo Ren and Rey it turns out that isn’t true. Here’s the scene between Leia and Kylo Ren during the ambush.

As both Kylo Ren and Leia sense each other the camera keeps going back and forth between their faces much in the same way that the camera flips between Rey and Kylo. Leia and Kylo, in those moments stare at each other as if they’re really standing face to face. He quivers with emotion as he tries to push the trigger and she looks at him, questioning him with her stare if he has the guts to kill her.

The Ten Most Awesome Women of ‘Star Wars’

When a Star Wars movie comes out one thing is inevitable; it’s time to update my Ranking series and with Solo introducing so many new and fantastic heroines to the Star Wars universe this list was destined to be upgraded. Enjoy my newest edition of The Ten Most Awesome Women of ‘Star Wars.

10. Val

Val
Val, the no-nonsense sharpshooter.

I was honestly surprised at how temporary Val’s involvement in Solo was but her participation in the movie was very awesome indeed. I would love to see her return in either a novel or one the animated shorts from Forces of Destiny.

9. Rose Tico

rose-tico-db-tlj_a70bef86 (1)
Rose, a mechanic, a rebel fighter, and a history maker.

This new age of Star Wars is not only cranking out fantastically enjoyable films but it has also become one of the most diverse franchises in Hollywood with women of color frequently being added to the Star Wars roster and I couldn’t be happier.

Rose is a wonderful addition to the Star Wars universe and I can’t wait to see her return in Episode IX to go on some more magical adventures.

8. L3-37

L3-37
L3-37, the first ‘Star Wars’ diva, is a droid. Lol.

Star Wars has been full of droids but it took until now for a major female droid to join the robot party and she definitely her placed her stamp on the Star Wars universe with her fierce attitude. She was one of the most no-nonsense ladies I have ever seen and really made me smile a number of times. Seeing her lead a droid rebellion was one of the coolest, funniest, and most awesome moments I have ever seen in Star Wars and only shows me that there is so much room for creativity in the Star Wars universe.

Looking Back on ‘5 Things I Would Love To See in ‘The Last Jedi’

Last August I wrote a post detailing 5 things I would love to see in The Last Jedi and to my great surprise everything I wanted to happen actually happened! So here’s a look back at that post I wrote nearly a year ago. Enjoy!

1. Luke and Leia Reunion

lukeandleiareunion.jpg

(Last year): Luke and Leia haven’t seen each other for a very, very long time. I think not only would it be a great moment, story-wise but to see Luke and Leia together again after all of these years would not only be beautiful but would also probably be one of my favorite moments of the movie. I’m pretty sure it would be very emotional too. Woo, I can just imagine my tears flowing already.

Well, sure enough they did reunite in the actual movie and yes, my tears definitely flowed at this emotional reunion. I wanted to see the brother and sister together one last time and I’m so glad Rian Johnson provided us this beautiful scene to watch for years to come.

2. The Backstory of Luke’s Academy Being Betrayed by Kylo Ren

luketempleburning.jpg

(Last year): Another one of the great mysteries that came out of ‘The Force Awakens’ was the mystery revolving around Kylo Ren and just exactly what happened with Luke Skywalker. Of course, we all know Ben Solo turned to the dark side and destroyed Luke’s Jedi Academy but just exactly how did that happen. In the teaser trailer, a clip is shown of undoubtedly Luke falling to his knees beside R2-D2 as he watches a building on fire. This has to be a scene depicting what happened during that terrible time.

The Last Jedi has a chance to put some of the mysteries that sprouted from The Force Awakens to rest and this one, I hope, will be one of them.

Yes, the mystery revolving around Ben Solo’s fall to the dark side was depicted in the movie but definitely not in the way that I expected. To find out that it was Luke who pushed young Ben over the edge to commit that terrible deed of destroying the temple is unfortunate indeed. Yay, I know what happened now.

3. Finn and Rey’s Reunion

tlj-finn-rey-hug

(Last year): Finn and Rey were a great team in The Force Awakens. They survived deadly adventures and both ended up playing huge roles in the fight against the First Order, but their paths at the end of film split due to Finn’s injury and her destiny to find Luke. Now, in The Last Jedi, from what I’ve gleaned so far, Rey is, of course, training to become a Jedi on the remote world of Ach-To while Finn will be on adventures with the Resistance. But according to Rey at the end of The Force Awakens, they will see each other again and I’m hoping they’ll reunite sometime in The Last Jedi. When they do reunite I’m sure that’ll also be one of my favorite moments of the movie.

It took until the final minutes of The Last Jedi for Finn and Rey to finally reunite again and when they did it actually did become one of my favorite scenes in the movie. Not only does it make me teary nearly every time I watch it but it’s just so nice seeing them together after being apart for so long. It’s simply a heartwarming moment between two of my favorite Star Wars characters. I can’t wait to see them together again in Episode IX.

4. The Mystery Surrounding Rey Somewhat Revealed

Ahch-To Mirror Cave

(Last year): I don’t need a complete explanation of who Rey’s parents are. I just want at least a hint. If ‘The Last Jedi’ ended without so much as a reference to her parentage or some sort of closure about that topic the wait for the ninth Star Wars will be just as agonizing as waiting for ‘The Last Jedi’ is. I mean, it would just be unnecessarily cruel considering that LucasFilm knows all of us fans want to know who her parents are so we can stop wondering who she is and just exactly why she’s so important.

Well, Lucasfilm didn’t break out hearts and actually answered our nagging questions about Rey’s parentage…or did they? Only time will tell but as it stands Rey is a nobody whose parents are dead in Jakku (which I don’t think is the final answer to that burning question of ours but who knows.)

5. Kylo Ren and Leia’s Not-So-Happy Reunion

kylosensesleia.png

(Last year): If Leia sees her son again it is not going to be pretty. I’m really hoping they do manage to come face to face in ‘The Last Jedi’ because I know, for a fact, that that will be a crucial moment in the movie, much like in ‘The Force Awakens’ when Kylo Ren confronted Han Solo. Hopefully, it won’t have the same outcome though.

The reason why that would be such a riveting scene is the conversation between them would undoubtedly be fascinating. Would she scald him for the evil he has committed and his willingness to follow the dark path? Will she be, in some way, glad to see her son after not seeing him for so long? Will he be angry when he sees her or will he be ashamed? I know he hated Han, that much was obvious, but I don’t know how he feels about his mother. Will they fight?! Two force wielders in an epic battle, mother, and son. That would be awesome. Oh, there are so many implications of awesomeness if they do meet in ‘The Last Jedi’. I’m just really hoping that it won’t have a devastating outcome, for either of them.

So…they did have a reunion but it was nothing like I had imagined it being, as you can see from this post last year. Leia would end up using the Force but not in a fight against Kylo Ren and there wouldn’t actually be any words between them but the brief reunion between mother and son was definitely one of the best moments in The Last Jedi.

Every once in a while I like to look back at posts I wrote describing a movie before I’ve seen it and this was just so interesting to see that all of these points I wanted to see actually did come to fruition. That’s awesome. And while each topic I wanted The Last Jedi to broach didn’t happen in the way that I could’ve imagined it’s cool to know that the movie did prevail at hitting all of these fascinating points.

I hope you’ve enjoyed reading this as much as I did and I hope you have a great day. May the Force be with you.
