Throwback Friday: The Reasons Why ‘Iron Man 3’ Is and Isn’t a Pointless Installment in the MCU

Iron Man 3. Like Thor: The Dark World, it’s a forgotten and seemingly pointless installment in the MCU. Its villain, The Mandarin, is one of the more unforgettable antagonists in the franchise. And Tony’s storyline moving forward barely feels affected by the plot points that are presented in the film.

I don’t watch Iron Man 3 often but after seeing Endgame I wanted to go back and look at the Marvel films I’m less familiar with, one of those films, of course, being Iron Man 3.

Iron Man 3 isn’t exactly a terrible movie but compared to the other two Iron Man films it almost feels like a travesty. With a villain that’s almost more comical than intimidating in The Mandarin and a storyline that’s trying too hard to be grave plus evolve Tony’s character despite the fact that he’s pretty much the same person by the end of the film that he was at the beginning, Iron Man 3 isn’t anywhere near the enjoyable status of my favorite Marvel movies.

And yet, it’s not entirely a pointless film. In fact, it’s almost kind of fascinating to look back at for a couple of really intriguing storylines, one of course being Pepper’s ascension to being a superhero. A Six-Year Poster Evolution: War Machine

War Machine is easily one of the coolest Avengers simply because he’s like Iron Man, on steroids. He has so many weapons at his disposal and Colonel Rhodes is also just a fun character to watch interacting with the other superheroes.

So, on that note, here are his character posters. Enjoy!

Iron Man 3

War Machine’s first character poster was in Iron Man 3 and I love the suit. The red, white, and blue for his new alias Iron Patriot is so well designed and with the embers surrounding him he looks all the more epic.

A Six-Year Poster Evolution: Pepper Potts

Pepper Potts has been in this franchise since the very beginning and her role has evolved just as much as Tony’s. In her debut, she was merely Tony’s love interest, playing the role of his secretary who he was entirely infatuated with. But she soon grew to have a role larger than first believed as she became CEO of Stark Industries. Suddenly, she wasn’t just a love interest. She was a powerful woman who was so brilliant she could run one of the biggest companies in the world.

And her relationship with Tony was realistically difficult. Being in a romantic relationship with someone like Tony Stark/Iron Man wouldn’t be an easy thing to handle and she let him know time and time again that she wasn’t easy to have.

I love that about her.

Now she is returning to play a role in Avengers: Endgame. Who knows how large that role may be but just the fact that she has a poster for the movie is exciting. So, here’s a look at the two character posters that she has managed to obtain through her time in the franchise.

The Top Five Iron Man Suits

Iron Man was the hero who kick started the MCU with a fantastic film in Iron Man that would end up being the perfect beginning to a new age in blockbuster cinema. Now ten years and nineteen movies later Iron Man has changed quite a bit through the years. Not only has Tony Stark endured challenges both physically and mentally but his suit has continuously upgraded through this entire experience and so I’m going to share with you his five best Iron Man designs. Enjoy!

5. The AvengersMV5BMjMwMzM2MTg1M15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwNjM4ODY3Nw@@._V1_SX1777_CR0,0,1777,999_AL_.jpg

Iron Man’s suit in The Avengers is of course cool but it isn’t my favorite design. The overall look is simple and easy to recognize with the class maroon and gold color. I like that the glowing energy core in the middle of his suit in this film is triangular rather than circular which helps make it stand out. And then the overall design is just simply nice. There’s just nothing about this rendition that makes it pop.

4. Iron Man

Iron Man

How would have Iron Man been received if the actual Iron Man suit had looked terrible? Avengers: Infinity War probably wouldn’t be around if that first film had flopped but it didn’t and one of those reasons is because the design of Iron Man was so perfectly brought to the big screen. Not only is this design clearly one of the best because it is the first look and it’s actually one of the coolest looks for the maroon and gold character but it brings me back memories when I saw fleeting glimpses of the Iron Man for the first time as a child. At that time I wasn’t old enough to watch the Iron Man movies all the way through but I was able to see bits and pieces of the films and I just remember being so wowed by this incredible superhero. He was so much cooler than Superman or Spider-Man and even Batman in that time of my life and it’s why I think I will always have a special place in my heart for the genius-playboy-billionaire-philanthropist.
