Watching ‘Avatar’ Again Has Made Me Excited for ‘Avatar 2’

I don’t watch Avatar often. The first time I watched it was in 2009 when it was all the rage. I remember enjoying it and being WOWED by the visuals. I hadn’t seen it again until a few years ago when I was reminded then why I enjoyed the film the first time I saw it. And then I watched it for only the third time yesterday with my sister and we were both overwhelmed by the beauty (oftentimes, literally) of the story.

No, Avatar isn’t a story unlike anything we’ve ever seen before but it does a great job honing the simplicity to new heights. By the last third of the film I wished I was an Avatar seeking to help protect Pandora from the humans’ greed alongside Jake Sully and Neytiri.

Avatar 2, which will come out next December, will have come out twelve years after the film that would wow audiences around the world and honestly if it’s just as good a story as the first film is, it just might dethrone Avengers: Endgame to reclaim the top spot as the highest-grossing movie of all time.

And the graphics, oh my goodness, they are going to be AMAZING! I can’t wait to eventually see the trailer for this highly-anticipated and long-awaited sequel.

I thank you for reading and I hope you have a lovely day.

Movie Spotlight: ‘Avatar’

Avatar, until Avengers: Endgame broke box-office records left and right, used to be the highest-grossing film of all time. For years I have wondered how this film with its super basic storyline could’ve made so much money but it did. It wowed moviegoers with its groundbreaking use of visual effects and its stunning world of Pandora was unlike anything ever experienced in a science-fiction film before it.

Over the last couple of years, my appreciation for this movie and all of the things that make it so special has grown and so, for this week’s Movie Spotlight I wanted to highlight this fantastic film.

Avatar is currently available to watch on Disney+.

I thank you for reading and I hope you have a fantastic day.

Movie Review Flashback: ‘Alita: Battle Angel’ Is a Massive Disappointment

One of the movies I was most excited to see but ended up missing this year was Alita: Battle Angel. For a couple of years now I have been seeing the teaser trailers and they have all excited me to the point where this was one of those films I really, really wanted to see. And to hear that James Cameron, the man behind genius cinematic creations like the first two Terminator movies and Avatar, was helping bring this story to life I had to check it out. Unfortunately, the film turned out to be way lamer than I expected.

When thinking about a movie that compares to Alita: Battle Angel I immediately am drawn to Ready Player One. Steven Spielberg, like James Cameron, is a master filmmaker and this was an interesting science-fiction story adapted from a popular YA novel to bring to the big screen. Unlike Alita: Battle Angel though, Ready Player One wasn’t disappointing.

Like Alita: Battle Angel it follows the story of a young hero trying to make his way in a near-apocalyptic future to take down a great evil. There’s romance, there are fantastic action scenes designed to make you say “Wow”  when you see it in IMAX, and the characters are just lovable enough for you to get invested in the story.

To be honest, the only reason why I finished Alita: Battle Angel is to write this review. Continue reading Movie Review Flashback: ‘Alita: Battle Angel’ Is a Massive Disappointment

My Introduction to the ‘ALIEN’ Franchise

A couple of years ago ALIEN: Covenant entered theaters and because of this I became very curious about the movie that started this frightening franchise. Now my first encounter with the horrific specimen wasn’t in the form of the movie. It instead was because of a game.

Several years ago I got Mortal Combat X for my wonderful XBOX One. Through the months the game introduced new characters and one of them happened to be Alien. When I saw this terrifying creature I was excited. It was a new character to play on the fighting game and I am proud to say I am very good at him. I had no idea I was playing a character that inspired a generation of filmmakers to try and recreate the same sense of horror in science fiction, whether that be in a movie or a video game. When I found out Alien was a movie character I was definitely intrigued but I wasn’t completely interested in watching the film. Then I saw this new ALIEN flick coming out that May and my curiosity began to boil. Continue reading My Introduction to the ‘ALIEN’ Franchise
