When Disney acquired the rights to LucasFilm they came equipped with many ideas. One of those ideas was the never-before-seen Star Wars stories; standalone films that focused on certain characters or important events in the galaxy. There have only been two of these standalone films so far and there may never be more after Solo‘s dismal box-office run, which is a shame because these movies are so enjoyable. Both are completely different and unique in their own way and that’s why they’re a part of this week’s Who’s Your Favorite? Enjoy!
Solo: A Star Wars Story
Solo follows Han’s journey in his young adult years as he learns the dangerous ways of a smuggler in the galaxy. He meets interesting people, learns valuable lessons, and gains a best friend who would always be there for him in Chewbacca.
We get to see Han’s first moments with the Millennium Falcon, his infamous Kessel Run, and how he won the Falcon from Lando Calrissian. But most importantly, we got to learn the reason why Han is such a hero as his heroism was on full display in this film.
We even got to see Darth Maul again! And that’s pretty awesome.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
Rogue One is an entirely different movie than Solo. It follows the story of a group of unlikely heroes who, with their determination, create a plan to steal the Death Star plans from underneath the Empire’s noses. This plan turns into an all-out war between the Empire and the Rebellion, with Jyn Erso at the helm of this uprising.
This film contains some very exciting moments like the entire battle on and above Scarif, Darth Vader’s return, Grand Moff Tarkin’s presence, and even a fantastic cameo by Princess Leia.
Between these two films, my favorite is clearly Rogue One. Time and time again I watch Rogue One and it always manages to bring a smile to my face while I can barely watch Solo anymore. Of course, that’s just me. The question is; which movie is your favorite?
I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below. I thank you for reading and I hope you have a fabulous day. May the Force be with you.
