Have You Seen ‘The Upside’?

If you like comedies and you like sappy feel-good movies this is one to watch. I’m telling you, three years ago my family and I saw the commercials. We knew it had the potential to be a really great film. Because I don’t want to share too much of the story here’s the film’s synopsis. (By the way, it’s based on a true story.)

A comedic look at the relationship between a wealthy man with quadriplegia and an unemployed man with a criminal record who’s hired to help him.

Sure enough, last night on a beautiful Saturday evening, we got the chance to finally watch it. And yeah, we were in tears throughout the movie.

Kevin Hart and Bryan Cranston, two naturally funny guys, had remarkable chemistry in this movie that was unexpected but totally worked at the same time. You almost get the feeling that they really did have a whole heck of a lot of fun making this movie and it shows.

The writing is phenomenal, straying from being too cliche or slapstick and staying on the more serious and emotionally impactful side of things.

I have to say, this is another must-watch. Once again, I’m straying from details because the movie will really surprise in a whole lot of ways. And yeah, the film’s pretty predictable at times, but it’s a good kind of predictable.

Forget Green Book. This is the type of feelgood movie that’s worth watching.

I’m giving this movie a solid 95 out of 100 and 4.5 out of 5 stars. It moved me and is undoubtedly the best Kevin Hart film I’ve seen.

I thank you for reading and I hope you have a lovely day.

‘Jumanji: The Next Level’ Was Exactly What I Expected: Super Fun!

Two years ago my family and I watched Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle after hearing all of the praise surrounding it. When we watched the movie we were pleasantly surprised by how fun and entertaining the film turned out being. The sequel was announced and we couldn’t wait to see it.

Thanks to AMC Theatres for giving me a free coupon code to watch any rentable movie I wanted on demand because my family and I jumped at the chance to see Jumanji: The Next Level and boy did it not disappoint.

I’m going to say this outright, I liked this film more than the first one. There were some really fun character moments, I liked that it was basically the same as Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle except with harder situations to overcome and more characters, and Danny Glover and Danny Devito’s additions to the movie was absolute perfection. Kevin Hart, Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black unsurprisingly knocked it out of the park but let’s give a shoutout to Awkwafina. ‘Jumanji: The Next Level’ Drops Its Thrilling Final Trailer

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was a welcome surprise in 2017, delivering a hilarious reboot that pleased the masses. Even my mother, who isn’t a huge fan of goofy movies like this, absolutely LOVED it. Now, its sequel, Jumanji: The Next Level is coming out in about a month and a half and the final trailer has arrived today. Here it is.

As expected, the trailer was a riot and clearly highlighted the very simple fact that this sequel is going to be yet another blast to watch. Last time we watched it we saw it at home but this time we’re determined to go watch it in the movie theaters and enjoy it with a crowd because it looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun. ‘Jumanji: The Next Level’ Gets an Official Trailer

Two years ago a surprise hit rivaled The Last Jedi at the box-office during the Christmas season and that surprise hit was Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. It starred Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black in a hilarious, super-fun and creative reboot on a Robin Williams 90s’ classic; Jumanji. My family and I missed seeing it at the movies but we rented it and were blown away by how entertaining the film ended up being.

Recently I gave the film a rewatch and once again I couldn’t stop smiling. The movie’s simple plotline could’ve easily been a disaster but the writers told a concise story that didn’t drag too long or get too corny, which seemed a miracle in itself. The movie was so good I didn’t think there needed to be a sequel but now that I’ve seen the first trailer for Jumanji: The Next Level my doubts have been washed away. Check it out. ‘Jumanji: Welcome To the Jungle’ Is the Surprise Hit I Wasn’t Expecting

So last December Jumanji: Welcome To the Jungle came out I think a week after The Last Jedi and even though it had some pretty stiff competition against the Star Wars it did a very decent job at the box-office, officially making roughly $900 million in its box-office run (*jaw dropped*) which is very impressive indeed. But even though it had such a great run at the movie theaters I wasn’t totally convinced that this movie would be good or not. Rotten Tomatoes gave it a menial score of 76% and the commercials I saw made this film look like something I wouldn’t want to watch. And then in the past week I kept seeing commercials boasting that Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was still in theaters and coming out on digital at the same time. That was the moment when I thought to myself, “Maybe this movie is actually good?”

So, yesterday I rented the movie and low and behold it was FANTASTIC! There’s not a lot of times when I watch a comedy and it’s actually really good but this was one of those rare surprises that reminds me why I love movies so much. The story was refreshingly simple; a group of high school students stuck in detention ended up sucked into a game called Jumanji and they had to, of course, finish the game in order to escape and return to their regular lives. In Jumanji, however, they were transformed into the game characters they chose which was absolutely hilarious and led to some very great character interaction that had me laughing non-stop.

Spencer, the nerd boy, was Dr. Bravestone, a.k.a Dwayne Johnson. The football player, Fridge, was Kevin Hart, a zoologist. The nerd girl was Karen Gillan’s character, the Killer of Men (ha-ha!) And the pretty, popular girl, Bethany, was Jack Black (which was even funnier.) This combo of actors was perfect for the film and they made the movie so enjoyable from beginning to end.

If you’re a gamer (which I am) this movie is even funnier because it really does strike the imagination of what it would be like if you were stuck in a game. And it conveyed to me how much I wouldn’t want to be trapped in a game. Jeez.

To my great surprise there was nothing in the movie that I didn’t enjoy.  I mean this film was laugh-out-loud funny throughout the entire film and the story never let up or got corny. And, I have to admit, I did get a little emotional from this movie as well. I held back the tears because I didn’t want to embarrass myself by crying at Jumanji but it definitely touched my heartstrings at a certain point in the movie.

My Conclusion of the Film

I’m glad to say this movie got a grip on me on early on into the film and it didn’t let go. It was impeccably written, perfectly cast, the action was exciting, the situations were riveting, the movie was funny, and like I said before, the film definitely plucked at my heartstrings I’d say a couple of times.

I will give this film a 95 out of a 100 and 4.5 out of 5 stars. While it is one of the better comedies I’ve seen in a long while it definitely isn’t the best movie I’ve ever seen and that’s the only reason why I didn’t give it a 100 or 5 stars. But, if you haven’t seen this movie or you’re a little curious about it like I was I highly recommend that you watch it. It’s the perfect film to watch if you’re bored and you need a light movie to brighten your day.

I thank you for reading my review and I hope you have a wonderful day.
