‘The Suicide squad’ Has Left Me Baffled

I knew it. I knew since the first teaser that The Suicide Squad was going to be a bad movie and sure enough, my gut proved to be right.

James Gunn is looking like a one-hit wonder at this point because his last two movies have just not done it for me. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 could’ve easily been better than the first one but its chaotic storytelling, excessive hollering, and attempt at a heartfelt moment with Yondu even though they didn’t share much screentime together in the actual film just left me feeling deflated. And The Suicide Squad suffers because it’s boring!

Margot Robbie Will Play the New Lead in an Upcoming ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Reboot

Since the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy ended in 2006 Disney has continued to try and find the magic that made those three films accumulate roughly $2.6 billion. In 2011, despite the mediocre response Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides made over a billion dollars (😯) but the fifth movie in the franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell no Tales wouldn’t be so lucky. Despite not performing as well as Disney had hoped on that Memorial Day weekend, it would still go on to gross nearly $800 million! But, judging from the simmering response, it became very clear that fans were tired of the same old-same old.

Jack Sparrow had lost the spark that made him so lovable in the first three Pirates movies, returning in a washed-up performance that felt, ultimately, unenthused.

Each film has managed to make a good chunk of cash but Disney understands that they have another great franchise on their hands if they can simply find the right pirate to helm a much-needed reboot. And it appears that Disney has found their lead.

Oscar-nominated actress Margot Robbie will play the lead in an all-new Pirates of the Caribbean reboot that will feature brand new stories and brand new characters. It will be written by Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson who will bring to life a new story helmed by a woman who should command the screen simply with her infectious smile.

Margot Robbie has shown that she can play an interesting female character who is all for kicking butt and girl power. I think it’s a great idea for her to fill in the shoes that Johnny Depp has left behind with Jack Sparrow and I believe she would make an excellent lead in a riveting Pirates of the Caribbean reboot.

Here is the Full Cast List of James Gunn’s Reimagining of ‘Suicide Squad’

When I watched Suicide Squad for the first time last year I was immediately struck with the blaring similarities between this anti-hero team and the Guardians of the Galaxy. Like The Guardians of the Galaxy, the Suicide Squad was a bunch of misfits who were tasked with saving the world, but unlike Guardians of the Galaxy, which was helmed by James Gunn’s genius, Suicide Squad was a hot mess of a storyline laced with potential.

When Disney briefly released James Gunn after several inappropriate tweets were unearthed from Gunn’s past Warner Bros. quickly jumped on the opportunity for James Gunn to take over the Suicide Squad sequel. On Friday, James Gunn revealed the new and improved cast for what is now being called The Suicide Squad and of course, I’m here to share the list with you. Enjoy!

Oscar Buzz: Which Actors and Movies Could Garner an Oscar Nomination?

It’s past halfway through the year and you can bet The Academy is already summarizing which actors, movies, music scores, etc. are worthy of Oscar nominations for this year’s Oscars. While most of the Oscar-worthy films still haven’t come out yet there are some movies and actors that are already garnering Oscar buzz.

Today I’ll share with you the potential nominees for these categories; Best Leading Actor, Best Picture, Best Leading Actress, Best Animated Film, and Best Visual Effects. Enjoy!

Best Visual Effects

Avengers: Endgame

While I feel that the visual effects for Avengers: Infinity War were better than Endgame it’s destined to garner an Oscar nomination.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters

Godzilla: King of the Monsters is one of those movies that relies heavily on CGI and while this film was not very good storywise it did manage to amaze with its jaw-dropping visual effects. I mean, those action scenes were bonkers, specifically in IMAX. Continue reading Oscar Buzz: Which Actors and Movies Could Garner an Oscar Nomination?

‘Suicide Squad’ Could’ve Been the DCEU Version of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’

After waiting and waiting for Suicide Squad to come to cable television (because I didn’t want to rent it) I finally got to see it yesterday and, for the most part, I mildly enjoyed it. I liked every character, which usually is a good sign of a movie’s quality. Will Smith’s Deadshot was easily my favorite member of the criminal superhero group with Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn sitting at a close second. But ultimately what killed my movie experience was the lackluster storytelling.

With the perfect writers, this could’ve been an ultimate success in the same way that Guardians of the Galaxy was because both films are ridiculously similar. Both movies follow the stories of a group of misfits who have to come together to save the world. Suicide Squad even tried to add popular songs throughout the film in the same way that Guardians of the Galaxy but it didn’t work. And honestly, it’s a shame.

While this film had so many chances to be the best movie in the DCEU franchise it was way too predictable, the story was junkily crafted, and the villain, crafted in the same terrible CGI fashion as Steppenwolf, was not at all enticing.
