The Fluidity of Adam Driver

Adam Driver has become one of the most prominent actors in Hollywood but that’s not just because he plays Kylo Ren in Star Wars. He made a name for himself through other venues as well, turning into an actor renown for playing roles with immense depth. Now, Adam Driver is on the press tour for three different movies, two of which are garnering him serious Oscar buzz. And because of this, I felt that I had to do this post celebrating the incredible fluidity of his remarkable talent.

Most actors who hit blockbuster status in a franchise as big as Star Wars don’t usually continue to work their craft in such stunning ways. However, Adam Driver, at first doing little side movies that weren’t going to afford him much attention, turned to films that could get him the Oscar attention that he rightfully deserves.

This trend in his popularity with the Oscars began with his role as Flip Zimmerman in Spike Lee’s Blackkklansman. Suddenly he was no longer just a popcorn flick star and was regarded as someone who actually had substantial acting chops, a fact that has been exploited outstandingly in both The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.

Adam Driver is one of my favorite actors because he is so remarkable at what he does. At one second he can be dark and menacing, wielding a red crossguard lightsaber into battle in The Rise of Skywalker and then you turn and look and he’s playing an emotional role that requires much more mental depth in Marriage Story. Or he’s playing a reporter getting the scoop in the new Amazon Prime original film, The Report.

And if you look back at the other movies he’s been in his track record has been nothing short of impressive. He’s been a romantic bus driver in Paterson, a grim priest in Silence, a redneck bumpkin in Logan Lucky, a director in The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, or a machete-wielding cop in this year’s zombie comedy, The Dead Don’t Die.

And the list doesn’t even end there considering his breakout role as Adam Sackler in the critically-acclaimed HBO series, Girls.

Next year he swaps the lightsaber for a sword in the film that already has people talking called The Last Duel. The reason why this particular movie has people excited is because of the cast which currently consists of Oscar-nominated-and-winning Matt Damon and Ben Affleck and Emmy-winning actress Jodie Comer. Here’s the synopsis.

King Charles VI declares that Knight Jean de Carrouges settle his dispute with his squire by challenging him to a duel.

It should be interesting.

All in all, Adam Driver is a fantastic actor and I can’t wait to see the final step of his journey as Kylo Ren on the big screen.

I thank you for reading and I hope you have a wonderful day.
