Another Stroll Down Memory Lane Has Led Me to ‘Mary Poppins’

Mary Poppins is another one of those Disney movies from my childhood that I knew (and loved) simply because I knew several of the songs from the film. However, I never actually watched Mary Poppins. In fact, my first introduction to Mary Poppins in a cinematic way was through Mary Poppins Returns which I found to be very boring. Pretty, but boring,

So, after having come away from Mary Poppins Returns with searing disappointment, I was determined to watch the original film one day. The film that garnered 13! nominations in 1964 and won five of them, including Julie Andrews’ Oscar win for bringing the lovable Mary Poppins to life.

As I watched the film yesterday morning I couldn’t keep a smile off of my face. It was nothing short of delightful. Continue reading Another Stroll Down Memory Lane Has Led Me to ‘Mary Poppins’

Epcot Is Going To Get a Little More Awesome

I’ve been to Disney World three times and with every visit, my family and I made sure to stop by Epcot. Epcot is our favorite park in Disney World for its incredible showcase area. There we like to walk around, eat all of the tasty food available at each different country, and buy fun souvenirs to keep as long as I live. But, to be honest, Epcot was getting old. As the other parks were getting fascinating expansions Epcot was staying the same, leaving it as the ugly duckling of Disney World. And then this weekend happened.

It was announced yesterday that Epcot would be getting a MAJOR reimagining with all sorts of new things to explore and enjoy. So, for all of you fellow Epcot fans, here are all of the new things we can look forward to in the next couple of the years.

A Whole New World

Epcot is now going to be split into four incredible neighborhoods that each have a specific purpose to the park. As always, I’m heading straight for the World Showcase where some new attractions await its guests. Continue reading Epcot Is Going To Get a Little More Awesome

My Review of ‘Mary Poppins Returns’

Mary Poppins Returns was the musical delight of last Christmas, bringing back to life an iconic Disney character in Mary Poppins. As someone who’s never seen the original Mary Poppins movie but knows two of its songs–“Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” and “A Spoonful of Sugar”–I knew the importance of this character being brought back to the big screen and I was definitely intrigued.

Seeing Emily Blunt in the starring role was a surprise but I’m glad to say she did a great job bringing the sassy magical nanny to life. Unfortunately, Mary Poppins Returns isn’t one of Disney’s greatest live-action movies. In fact, it was kind of dreadful, in a tolerable way.

As someone who has acquired a legitimate fondness for musicals after seeing An American in ParisMary Poppins Returns pales in comparison. The choreography was often corny and not that great. The songs were plain and couldn’t even make me tap my foot or crack a smile on my face. Of course, the Oscar-nominated song “The Place Where Lost Things Go” is expectedly beautiful and touching enough to make one maybe want to cry but it alone cannot save this film.

And Dick van Dyke’s inclusion in the movie, while it was nice to see him, felt awfully forced. It wasn’t like seeing Darth Maul in Solo: A Star Wars Story. It felt like the writers were trying to find a way to incorporate him into the movie and decided upon putting him in the story at the most convenient time which resulted in a rather corny moment, in my opinion.

Of course, this review is from an adult speaking. I know for a fact, as a child, I would’ve loved this movie. Filled with imagination and fun characters in Mary Poppins and her handy sidekick, Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Jack, this movie will be a delight for little children.

I’m giving this 85 out of 100 and 3.5/5 stars. While it wasn’t anywhere near the best Disney movie I had ever seen it was decent enough to watch all the way through.

I thank you for reading and I hope you have a splendid day.

‘Mary Poppins Returns’ Has An Official Trailer

I have never watched Mary Poppins. The only thing I know about Mary Poppins is the “Supercalifragilisticexpealidocious” song and the other song that says, “Just a spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down.” Besides that Mary Poppins is just as much of a mystery to me as Dumbo. So today the official trailer for the Mary Poppins sequel came out and I, of course, watched the trailer. Here it is.

After seeing this trailer I want to watch this movie now. First of all, I love Disney movies. In fact, the first film I ever watched in IMAX was Alice in Wonderland.

There’s something so distinctly magical about these live-action Disney films that are awash in vibrant color and stunning characters, creatures, and fantasy worlds and this movie is no exception.

At first this trailer had me a bit bored and uninterested but then as the trailer got better my awe grew more and more and by the end I was covered in goosebumps, I had a smile on my face, and I was completely wowed by what I had just experienced just from the trailer! It was as if I had gone on a magical ride with Mary Poppins herself in this tantalizing teaser.

And I can already say this. Emily Blunt is a GREAT Mary Poppins. 🙂

I thank you for reading and I hope you have a magical day.
