My Ten Favorite ‘Star Wars’ Characters: Updated

I haven’t done this in a while because I actually haven’t cared to. I want to make a top ten Marvel heroes list but there are so many shows and movies these days it’s constantly changing (I’ll probably still write one next anyway.)

Star Wars on the other hand is a lot easier to decipher when it comes to ranking my favorite characters because there aren’t as many that I truly love. I think the last time I shared a ranking it was before The Rise of Skywalker and The Mandalorian had come out so…this should be interesting. Enjoy!

10. Rey

There was a time when Rey was my favorite Star Wars character hands down but thanks to Abrams and Johnson’s clashing visions of the character she was dumbed down into a chosen-one type of hero with no clear inclinations as to why.

I liked Rey as a nobody, then she became a somebody, and now she’s a Skywalker. It’s draining. Plus, I love Daisy Ridley but it seemed like she was trying just a bit too hard to convey all of this emotion in Rey for the finale and ultimately just came across as a kind of annoying emotional wreck.

The only reason why I still have Rey in my top ten is because if they announced a Rey Disney+ series right now I would lose my mind so I definitely still harbor some love for the character.

9. Kylo Ren (Pre-The Rise of Skywalker)

And who surpassed Rey as my favorite character for quite a long while? Kylo Ren. It was The Last Jedi that did it as Rian Johnson fleshed out his character by making him a victim of Luke’s failure rather than just a crazed baddie. I loved the character development and was super into Kylo Ren’s story and his potential to return to being Ben Solo.

Then The Rise of Skywalker happened and suddenly he was no longer cool, he was no longer interesting, and he literally got no lines to speak as Ben Solo except for, “Ow.” What type of mess is that?

I remember leaving the movie theater after having watched The Rise of Skywalker the first time asking myself, “What did they do to my boy, Kylo?” I was furious, and still am in fact.

So, while I did love Kylo Ren a whole heck of a lot before The Rise of Skywalker it’s his story in the finale that ruined his character for me. It is only because of his role pre-The Rise of Skywalker that he’s on this list.

Disney Investor Day: ‘Star Wars’ Edition

Last night happened. What do I mean by that? It was the annual Disney Investor Day and this time, we got to share in the awesome proceedings. Last night during a streamable event, people were given the opportunity to see what’s coming new to theaters and its streaming services over the next few years. And to everyone’s great surprise, 10 Star Wars projects were announced among a bunch of other shocking and stunning news.

Three of the projects were expected: the Cassian Andor Disney+ series, the Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series, and the new animated series, The Bad Batch. However, it was the other seven announcements that shattered the internet and left my brain reeling with absolute shock. So, with that being said, let’s take a look at these new projects.

Who’s Your Favorite Obi-Wan Kenobi?

Obi-Wan Kenobi is one of the most beloved Star Wars characters for one simple reason; he’s awesome. He wowed fans when he was introduced as the Star Wars version of the Wizard Merlin in A New Hope. And he was easily the coolest character in the often harangued prequel trilogy. So, on this week’s segment of Who’s Your Favorite I’m tackling one of the greatest Jedi that has ever lived; Obi-Wan Kenobi. Enjoy!

Classic Obi-Wan Kenobi

Obi-Wan Kenobi might’ve died in A New Hope but he lived on in ghost form throughout the classic trilogy, randomly delivering Luke wisdom and being awesome. One of my favorite scenes in The Empire Strikes Back is when Obi-Wan Kenobi visits Luke in Hoth. It’s the first time we see Obi-Wan in physical ghost form and it’s always fascinated me seeing him standing in the snowy gloom telling Luke to go to the Dagobah system. Old Obi-Wan is awesome.

My Sister’s Opinion: The Sacrifice of Jedi

Star Wars is sophisticated. Sophisticated because it is an intricate story with seemingly labyrinthian plotlines interwoven to create this wonderful narrative. It is the reason there are so many different opinions and thought processes when it comes to the same thing we all watch.

And the reason after so many years watching it, you can discover new things whispered into the story. Lately, it has been the sacrifice of the Jedi that I have discovered is a crucial backbone to the overall plot of Star Wars and especially the soon-to-be-completed Skywalker Saga.

I begin this journey with Luke Skywalker. Continue reading My Sister’s Opinion: The Sacrifice of Jedi

Another Cool Piece of Art

Yesterday there was a certain piece of art that I really wanted to share but it wasn’t on the internet yet so I couldn’t include it in my Fan Art Wednesday piece. But, it was so cool, I’m sharing it today. Take a look.

The piece, mirroring these impactful moments in Anakin/Vader’s journeys, depicts the last words Obi-Wan and Ahsoka said to him before their individual battles begun.

What I love about this piece so much is how it bluntly reveals the stark parallels in color schemes between these two iconic Star Wars moments. Each scene melds into the other in a profoundly beautiful way and honestly…I can’t get enough of this. Beautiful.

I thank you for reading and I hope you have a spectacular day. May the Force be with you.
