Silverware clinked and glasses thumped against a gorgeous wooden dining table as Natasha, Nick Fury, Agent Hill, and Shuri dug into a simple Wakandan dinner. The nearby wall was made entirely of glass, providing a view of the city in all of its glittering glory in the night time. Steve Rogers stood at the window, his arms crossed and his jaw clenched. He couldn’t eat. Not with this much worry on his mind. Continue reading Captain America: Secret War (TWENTY-FOUR)
“Breathe, Sharon. Keep breathing,” Steve urged as he stood beside her, holding Sharon Carter’s slack hand and gazing at her lightly bruised face.
Natasha, piloting the Quinjet, hadn’t said a word since they had zoomed away from London. Even Nick Fury and Agent Hill were expectedly resolute in their actions as Sharon’s chances of survival lessened with each passing minute. Continue reading Captain America: Secret War (TWENTY-ONE)
When I first created this post I was still a month and a half away from seeing Avengers: Infinity War. Of course, since then, we have had three new heroines join the party; Captain Marvel, Wasp, and Pepper Potts, meaning this list needs an update pronto. Enjoy my new ranking of the Marvel heroines!
15. Agent 13
I didn’t realize how much I liked Sharon Carter until it was announced that she may play a role in the upcoming Falcon and Winter Soldier series on Disney+. I was legitimately excited. At that moment I realized just how much she had grown on me over the years. I would probably place her higher if she wasn’t against such stiff competition, hence the last place on this list.
14. Agent Peggy Carter
I like Peggy because she isn’t just a pretty face. She’s also tough, strong-willed, and she proved that she was more than just a love interest/damsel-in-distress. I appreciate that. It’s a shame that she only made one major appearance in the franchise in Captain America: The First Avenger but she definitely won me over.
Ever since I watched Black Panther for the first time I have been an Okoye fan. From the moment she threw off her wig to her speaking Wakandan in front of confused American agent, Everett Ross I have loved her character SO much. And she has one of the most beautiful outfits of any of the heroines with her Wakandan armor, jewelry, and clothes. And not only is she a powerful warrior but she’s a general as well, making her even more awesome.
She, thankfully, was one of the few heroes who were not a victim to The Snap, meaning we will get to see more with her in Endgame and I am excited. But before that, we have to to take a look at her posters. Enjoy!
With her bowed and her stance representing that of a warrior, General Okoye oozes strength on this poster. In a way, this poster highlights the conflict in her nation by her solemn stance but there is also resolve to her as well. She knows that she will fight for her country and her king to the very end, no matter who may sit upon it, but she will face a choice. Fight with blind loyalty to a tyrannic king (Erik Killmonger) or fight for what she believes in, the wellbeing of her country, Wakanda. She would choose the latter.
And by the way, I love her armor so much. The shoulder pads, the bracers, the golden necklace, everything about Okoye’s outfit is amazing.
It’s International Women’s Day and what’s a better way to celebrate such a wonderful day for women than to list my ten favorite movie heroines for Throwback Friday? It’s perfect. 🙂 I hope you enjoy and Happy International Women’s Day!
I love movies because they’re very fun to watch. I love seeing stories play out on screen, I love watching actors portray different characters that I will either love or despise, I love action films, but most importantly, I love a movie with an off-the-chain heroine. There are hundreds of great films with male heroes but when a woman can come into the fold and kick butt alongside the men that’s when a movie, for me, gets really awesome and lately that’s become a regular occurrence.
Two years ago Wonder Woman finally got her own blockbuster film after being around for decades and there have been a bunch of critically acclaimed indie films and television shows led by women in the past year. The last three Star Wars films have been led by women and have made billions of dollars, an idea that at one time would seem preposterous to the Hollywood elite. 2017’s highest-grossing films were all led by female leads; Beauty and the Beast, Wonder Woman, and The Last Jedi. And now, Marvel’s first female superhero to lead her own film (Captain Marvel) is literally coming out…TODAY!
So, because women are clearly awesome, I’m going to share with you the ten movie heroines that I have come to love the most, at least, so far. Enjoy!
The Wizard of Oz is one of my favorite movies of all time. I remember seeing this film as a child and it was one of the most magical films I have ever seen still to this day. To think that this movie was made in 1939! is beyond incredible and in the center of this epic tale is Dorothy.
Dorothy is a special character. She has those ruby slippers, she sings like an angel, Toto is the cutest dog ever and she’s so sweet. She’s a regular farm girl trying to run away from home because a mean old lady wants her dog to be taken away and just so happens to end up embarking on an incredible journey in a magical world unlike any other. She faces flying monkeys, an evil witch, and many other obstacles but at the end of it all she survives the adventure and helps save the Land of Oz while never refraining from being herself. If you really think about it, Dorothy is very brave. To face all of that strange stuff; a talking scarecrow, a talking lion, a tin man, munchkins, witches, etc. without utterly freaking out is very impressive.
Without Dorothy, The Wizard of Oz would not be the same magical movie that it has been for almost a century and that’s why she is one of my favorite heroines.
The MCU may have an abundance of awesome male heroes but over the years there has also been a rise of incredible heroines who manage to steal the show simply by their commanding presence. But which of these fascinating, crime-stopping, alien-annihilating ladies is your favorite? Here’s the list.
Mantis is extremely lovable because of her sweet and innocent personality. She’s played a smaller role than most of these other heroines but her presence is undeniable and she is an asset to the team.
Nebula hasn’t had the easiest journey but she has found a way to endure. She fought by Ronan’s side in Guardians of the Galaxy and after being reunited with her beloved sister she turned down a different path; one of revenge and redemption. How her journey will end, no one knows, but she will play an integral role in the fight against Thanos.
