A Movie Ranking: Sylvester Stallone

Sylvester Stallone is one of my favorite people in Hollywood for his outstanding works in cinema. From his Oscar-worthy performances as an actor, his incredible skill at storytelling, and his attention to detail in directing, Sylvester “Sly” Stallone is an amazing person and clearly someone who inspires me to believe that one day my own work may be recognized in a similar fashion.

Today, for this week’s A Movie Ranking, I had to rank all of the films I’ve seen with the one-and-only Stallone in the mix. Enjoy!

12. Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over

Spy Kids 3: Game Over (2003)

As a child, this was one of my favorite films. As an adult, it’s, of course, lost a bit of its grandeur but it still brings me fond memories. Continue reading A Movie Ranking: Sylvester Stallone

What’s Your Favorite Christopher Nolan Movie?

As you may know, Christopher Nolan is an incredible filmmaker who doesn’t just make movies that perform well at the box-office. Instead, he makes movies that intend to leave you stunned and truly appreciative of the outstanding work he has just displayed on the big screen. I didn’t know much about Christopher Nolan until I saw Interstellar. After that, I became obsessed with his work. I have watched most of his films and have loved every single one of them. Christopher Nolan still hasn’t won an Oscar but he has been nominated five times for one. And honestly, nearly all the movies he has made deserves an Oscar nod.

For this week’s Who’s Your Favorite? I thought it would be perfect to make this amazing director the topic for today. Here’s the list of his best movies. Continue reading What’s Your Favorite Christopher Nolan Movie?

My Review of ‘If Beale Street Could Talk’

There were a lot of good movies that obtained deserved recognition last year for telling powerful stories. If Beale Street Could Talk was one of those films.

Adapted from the novel, If Beale Street Could Talk, written by the legendary James Baldwin, this movie tells the beautiful yet tragic love story of a young, pregnant black woman trying to prove that her unofficial-but-totally-official husband didn’t commit a heinous crime.

Written and directed like a musical from the 50s’ and 60s’, this film takes you on an emotional journey that details the growing romance between main characters Tish and Alonzo “Fonny” Hunt and how a simple misunderstanding would completely change their lives. Movie Review Flashback: ‘Phantom Thread’ Is a Beautiful Piece of Art

It’s been nearly five months since I watched Phantom Thread for the first time and even now, after only having seen the movie once, I still believe this is one of the greatest movies I have ever seen. The story left me riveted and unable to guess where it was heading all the way to the very end.

So, in celebration of this wonderful movie, here’s a look back at my review of the film. Enjoy!

In preparation for the Oscars this year my family and I have begun to look back at some of the Oscar-nominated films last year that we missed. One of those particular movies happened to be Phantom Thread.

This wasn’t a film I was particularly interested in seeing but after my mother watched it and came away from the film with nothing but praise I decided to check it out. I’m glad I did. This movie is going to stick with me for a long time because of its unique brilliance. So, on that note, let me tell you a little bit about this film.

‘Hero’ Is One of the Most Beautiful Movies I Have Ever Watched

As you can tell from my blog, I love movies! I watch at least one movie every day and I love finding new films to watch. Kung fu movies are some of my favorite films and Hero, which was nominated for Best Picture in 2004 and has a 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes, is clearly one of the best movies of any genre that I have ever seen.

Hero is basically an epic brought to life, highlighting a Chinese story that has been told over thousands of years that signifies the birth of China as we know it. It is told in a poetic fashion, giving four different versions of the same story with each version displaying a new color tone.

The most deceitful version has the characters and the surroundings cast in striking red colors and tones but by the final version, which is the most truthful, the characters are adorned in white and their surroundings are pure of striking tones and are just more natural looking.

First off, I just want to say that Daniel Day-Lewis did an absolutely phenomenal job in this movie. This was his swan song and boy did he go out with a bang. I’m sure Gary Oldman’s stunning portrayal of Winston Churchill was undoubtedly worthy of an Oscar but in my opinion, I would’ve given the trophy to Mr. Day-Lewis. He played this part SO well but I figure, because he’s already won three Oscars, they gave Gary the trophy instead. Boo.

Anyway, this movie is amazing. It follows the story of a designer in England (Daniel Day-Lewis) whose dresses are unparalleled in their breathtaking quality. And these dresses are ravishing.

Time and time again I found myself staring at the screen in wide-eyed awe because of how beautiful the dresses were. This film’s only Oscar winner went to Best Costume Design and it rightfully deserved it. Okay, I’m getting off course again. Let me get back to telling you about the story.
