Throwback Friday: The Originality of a Space Battle in ‘The Last Jedi’

The Last Jedi was about as unconventional a Star Wars movie as you can get. Yes, it had lightsabers and Jedi, space battles and conversations of the Force, but Rian Johnson changed a lot about the way we view these movies. He took a more ethical approach to the entire story of Star Wars which led to a complex but satisfying sequel rather than just creating a fun action movie. Pursued by the Empire

Space battles have always been a huge staple of Star Wars. In fact, the first scene ever to appear in a Star Wars film involved a space battle! That’s how important they are. Revisiting The Last Jedi Novel

Ahead of the newest Star Wars novel to join my collection, Resistance Reborn, a must-have prequel to The Rise of Skywalker, I’m revisiting one of the best novels I’ve ever read, The Last Jedi. And then, as soon as I get my hands on Resistance Reborn (which I’m super excited about!!!!) I’ll deliver a review asap.

So, with no further delay, here’s my first review of the Prologue-Chapter 4. Enjoy!

We get a different opening that starts the story with Luke Skywalker. It’s a look at an alternate reality where Luke Skywalker has remained on Tatooine, gotten old, gotten married to a woman who was briefly seen in a deleted scene from A New Hope, and The Empire has destroyed every last remnant of the Rebellion.

For Star Wars fans, it’s a haunting reality that immediately displays the idea that The Last Jedi is going to be a very different movie. A movie that is designed to be more thoughtful than The Force Awakens could ever be. Continue reading Revisiting The Last Jedi Novel
