Ranking the Movies I’ve Seen So Far This Year

It’s been a busy movie year. I’ve seen a bunch of movies, some that have been legitimately enjoyable while there have been a few stumbles along the way. Considering that I have seen so many movies this year I thought it best to do a ranking now of the films I’ve seen (so far.) Enjoy!

16. In the Heights

In the Heights (2021) - IMDb

If you had told me In the Heights was going to be my least favorite film of the year so far I would’ve been baffled but it is. This movie irked me on a level I can’t fully explain but there’s one major flaw; John M. Chu directed this movie like a Broadway play, not a movie!

The constant singing was out of place and took away from the enjoyment of the overall story. It was too loud, too chaotic, there were too many distractions disrupting the singing numbers, and because the movie was poorly constructed from the get-go, I didn’t like any of the characters.

When that movie ended I realized that I had seen one of the worst musicals I had ever seen and that’s unfortunate.

15. The Little Things

The Little Things' movie review, Denzel Washington thriller - Los Angeles Times

I wasn’t expecting this movie to be good but I wasn’t expecting it to be as bad as it was either. I love a good whodunnit movie but this film just didn’t cut it. And its conclusion was infuriating!

14. The Suicide Squad

The Suicide Squad' Isn't a Typical Superhero Movie - The Atlantic

There are people who will say this is one of the best comic book movies they’ve seen. I beg to differ. The Suicide Squad is a ridiculously violent, boring island adventure with a bunch of unlikable characters and maybe two standouts. And yeah the villain was actually intimidating…for two seconds. Then he was killed in such a ridiculous fashion that I was left just staring at the screen like, “Really.”

But I’m glad there were people who liked it.

‘Raya and the Last Dragon’ Has Made Me Cry Four Times!

I have seen Raya and the Last Dragon four times now and every viewing has left me in tears. I’ve seen a lot of Disney movies, I’ve cried at almost all of them, but it’s been a while since a Disney film has touched me as much as this one.

Raya and the last Dragon is a computer animated masterpiece

Raya and the Last Dragon is not only visually stunning but it’s fun and funny but its message of letting past prejudices and hate go to come together is so profound, poignant, and beautiful. The last fifteen minutes of this movie leave me as an emotional wreck every time I watch it and I thank Disney for making this movie. It’s beautiful.

Next month is Pixar’s Luca and I’m very excited to see that. I hope it’s as good as it looks.

I thank you for reading and I hope you have a great day.

My Ten Favorite Animated Disney Movies

Disney movies are the best! They’re bright and colorful, beautifully animated, filled with the finest and most inspiring characters, and just really good. I’ve been watching a lot of Disney movies lately and yeah, I decided to do an updated ranking of my ten favorite Disney movies. Enjoy!

(This list focuses on Disney movies, not Disney/Pixar movies. There is a difference, lol.)

10. Beauty and the Beast

My first viewing of Beauty and the Beast was the live-action version and while I personally like that version the most, the animated classic is a classic for a reason.

The Beast is more expressive thanks to the animation and there’s real heart to this film. Plus, it makes me cry at the end. The live-action version does not.

‘Raya and the Last Dragon’ Is Another Great Disney Movie!

As expected Raya and the Last Dragon is perfect! I’m talking funny, breathtakingly beautiful, simply written and yet so effective. Its main character Raya, voiced by the wonderful Kelly Marie Tran, sets herself on a mission to save the world; a classic tale told by thousands. But what makes this story memorable is the heart behind this Disney wonder.

Cinemark Won't Be Playing Disney's 'Raya And The Last Dragon': Here's Why – Deadline

I don’t want to say too much because it’ll give the story away but I was overcome by emotion watching this movie which concludes with a message so profound it made me weep.

It’s the perfect movie to see right now and a delightful treat for little ones. The Southeast-Asian representation was awe-inspiring and so magnificent. I’m not even Asian and I was proud! (It’s just so nice seeing Disney depict these vibrant and diverse cultures so respectfully.) And of course, it has plenty of girl power moments.

All in all, if you’re a fan of Disney this is a must-watch.

95 out of 100 and 4.5 out of 5 stars.

I thank you for reading and I hope you have a great day.

Which Movie Am I Looking Most Forward To This Month?

March is going to be a busy movie month. There’s Chaos Walking and Raya and the Last Dragon, Coming 2 America and Justice League: The Snyder Cut, and of course, Godzilla vs. Kong. Of these five movies which am I most looking forward to?

Chaos Walking

This film starring Daisy Ridley and Tom Holland was supposed to come out years ago but extensive reshoots (because the movie was reportedly unwatchable) led the film to being delayed over and over again. Then COVID hit and it was delayed yet again but now, it’s finally coming out this Friday.

Will I be watching this movie? Definitely not. I love Ridley and Holland but honestly, I don’t want to see them in a movie together. Ridley’s blond wig looks ridiculous and clearly doesn’t even look like she would have hair like that. And honestly, the thought of her and Holland having a romance is just icky to me. That’s a fandom crossover that I don’t want to see.
