My Ten Favorite Movie Characters

I. Love. Movies! That’s been the tagline of my blog since its inception in December 2016. And what is the basis of a great movie? An awesome character.

Every movie’s driving force are the characters that lead the story to other dimensions and have you asking for more. If a movie is awful there’s a good chance that the main character probably annoyed the heck out of you. And if a movie is phenomenal it’s very likely that the film had some pretty fantastic characters involved.

Today, I will share a tentative list of my ten favorite movie characters of all time (tentative because it could change at any second) and in no particular order. So, here goes.

Harry Potter

Growing up, my first love wasn’t Star Wars, it was Harry Potter. There still hasn’t been quite as amazing a children’s fantasy story brought to the big screen as these movies and at its beating heart lies Harry Potter himself, perfectly portrayed by Daniel Radcliffe.

Since the shockingly young age of eleven he had to carry an entire franchise on his shoulders and he did his job swimmingly. Yes, he was a kid, but he was a brave kid tackling impossible odds in a terrifying world full of monsters, creepy wizards, and a particular revenge-stricken monster named Voldemort.

His story never grows weak, the plot only thickens, and by the end of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban alone, there’s no doubt in my mind that he is undoubtedly one of my favorite movie characters of all time.

5 Movies To Watch this Independence Day

It’s the day before our beautiful country’s official birthday, the 4th of July, and on a celebratory holiday like this, it’s nice to sit back, relax, eat some delicious grilled delights, and watch a movie. But what movie is best to watch with the family on such a glorious summer holiday? Well, here are five films that I think are great Independence Day movies. Enjoy!

Well, this is a duh moment. Independence Day is a 90s’ classic starring Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum in a science-fiction action-packed blockbuster that has stood the test of time. If you’re coming in from the sweltering summer heat to watch a fun movie with the family this is one to turn on. Continue reading 5 Movies To Watch this Independence Day

A Movie Ranking: Sylvester Stallone

Sylvester Stallone is one of my favorite people in Hollywood for his outstanding works in cinema. From his Oscar-worthy performances as an actor, his incredible skill at storytelling, and his attention to detail in directing, Sylvester “Sly” Stallone is an amazing person and clearly someone who inspires me to believe that one day my own work may be recognized in a similar fashion.

Today, for this week’s A Movie Ranking, I had to rank all of the films I’ve seen with the one-and-only Stallone in the mix. Enjoy!

12. Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over

Spy Kids 3: Game Over (2003)

As a child, this was one of my favorite films. As an adult, it’s, of course, lost a bit of its grandeur but it still brings me fond memories. Continue reading A Movie Ranking: Sylvester Stallone

Watching ‘Rocky’ For the First Time

Rocky. Everyone in the United States knows who Rocky is. If you don’t, you’ve basically been living under a rock. Sylvester Stallone created a fictional character that is literally one of the most inspiring and iconic fictional characters of all time. I’ve been watching Rocky movies since I was a kid but I had only ever seen Rocky III (which is my favorite installment) and Rocky IV. Then I saw Creed and Creed II, which were also pretty good. But there were two important Rocky movies I had never thought about watching before and that was Rocky and Rocky II.

A couple of weeks ago I wrote a post sharing my ranking of all of the Oscar-winning movies I had ever seen but when I went to look at a list of all the Oscar-winning films my jaw dropped when I saw that Rocky was on that list. All this time I have loved these movies and I didn’t see the one that got a freaking Oscar for Best Picture! What?! So, because Netflix just released all five Rocky movies on their streaming service, I decided to watch it, and boy was I surprised. Continue reading Watching ‘Rocky’ For the First Time

‘Creed II’ Gets An Official Trailer

Creed, a spinoff franchise from the beloved Rocky films, came out three years ago. It focused on a new boxer, Apollo’s son, Creed, and his rise to boxing champion as he was trained by none other than Sylvester Stallone’s ailing Rocky Balboa. I watched the movie and for the most part it was a decent film that possessed a lot of heart and made for a pretty good boxing movie. Now Michael B. Jordan after his stellar performance as Erik Killmonger in Black Panther returns to the role of Creed this November with a new film and the trailer for it just recently dropped. Here it is.

At first I was a little bored with the trailer but as soon Kendrick Lamar’s famous song, “DNA” started building up the trailer got better and better without, thankfully, revealing too much from the film. We get tantalizing shots of Creed preparing for a new opponent, moments with Rocky, Tessa Thompson being the doting wife of Creed, and then the end of the trailer was the knockout punch as we got to see who Creed’s next opponent is going to be. Drago, the Russian boxer who killed Apollo, I guess has a son who’s going to face off against Creed and that seems very exciting indeed.

It’s a showdown of the ages. I don’t get excited for a lot of movies outside of Marvel and Star Wars films but I have to admit, this movie actually looks good. 🙂

Here’s the poster.
