Why Does ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’ Look Exactly Like ‘Venom’?

Venom was the 2018 box-office success that I don’t think anyone expected it to be. It nearly made a billion dollars and ultimately revealed to Sony Entertainment that fans were enthusiastic on their take on Venom and his origin story.

I’ve watched the movie, maybe four times, and each time I have found it somewhat enjoyable but not that good. Tom Hardy gives an inspired performance as Eddie Brock/Venom but it’s clear the character wasn’t really written for an actor his age.

Still, he did his job and made Venom likable, the movie earned a sequel, and now we’re finally getting a chance to see the trailer for Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Here it is.

I saw this trailer and yeah, the beginning made me laugh, but then the trailer kind of devolved into crafting a storyline almost identical to the one for Venom.

Woody Harrelson looks ridiculous but at least his hair isn’t as wacky. The CGI for Venom and Carnage still looks kind of iffy and the story looks appropriately cheesy. I won’t be going to see this in the movie theater because I’m not that interested but I am interested to see it eventually at home.

I thank you for reading and I hope you have a great day.

I Can’t Stop Talking About ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’

Lately I’ve been very into Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse again since it started coming on FX and since I’ve seen it three times in the past two weeks or so I figured I might as well revisit this post which perfectly sums up my adoration of this movie which has now become my favorite animated film of all time! Enjoy.

The trick to Into the Spider-Verse isn’t the story, the story is actually rather basic, nor is it the music (which is pretty great by the way.) There’s something else to this film that has me going back for more and that is the absolutely stunning animation.

The movie melds at least a half dozen genres in one movie and it is mind-blowing. From being uncannily realistic looking at times to appearing like a strip right out of a comic book and even having the cartoony look of a Looney Tunes cartoon mixed with manga animation plus some truly psychedelic visuals can leave one’s brain scrambled in sheer awe. Remember This Teaser Trailer for ‘Morbius’?

Like VenomMorbius follows the story of a man’s evolution into a classic Spider-Man villain. But unlike Venom, which had big-name actor Tom Hardy at the helm, Jared Leto’s track record with comic book movies hasn’t been good.

In 2016, Jared Leto portrayed The Joker in Suicide Squad and he was HORRIBLE. He is considered by most, including me, to be the worst version of The Joker and since then Leto kind of disappeared. Well…he’s back…as a vampire…in a comic book movie. Here’s the trailer.

Is ‘Venom’ Worth Watching?

*Tssk, tssk, tssk* Venom. The movie that has broken records and is now holding the top spot as the highest grossing origin story superhero movie of all time, thanks to its raving success overseas. When I saw the teaser I was so excited to see this film. Then it oozed into theaters and disparaging reviews of the movie started pouring into the internet about the film. It dissuaded me from wanting to spend my valuable dollars for a film that wasn’t going to be that great and so I patiently waited for it to come out digitally.

So, last night, I saw that it was available for rental and so I decided to check it out. I was curious about finding out whether the movie was truly worthy of its rotten 29% score on Rotten Tomatoes or if it was deserving of becoming the highest grossing superhero origin story movie of all time. It warranted neither of these things. It wasn’t bad enough to only be 29% on Rotten Tomatoes but it wasn’t good enough to make so much money at the box office either.

So, the question remains; Was Venom worth watching? Yes…and no. This is why.

(This is a spoiler-free review.)

A Personal Analysis of ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’

I’ve seen a lot of movies in my time, I’ve seen a lot of amazing superhero movies, but I’ve never seen anything like Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse before. I watched this movie three times in 26 hours, that’s how much I enjoyed it. In fact, it seems to get better with every viewing. This movie is beyond amazing and it fills my heart with such a boundless joy that I had to write this second review to talk about it more deeply. So, on that note, let’s get to this more analytic review.

Have you ever seen a movie that just…makes you happy to be alive? A film so good that you can’t imagine the world without it after you’ve seen it? Well, that’s Into the Spider-Verse for me.

This film is beyond just a superhero movie. It is yet another cultural stepping stone in Hollywood that shows the world how beautiful it is to tell diverse stories with lovable characters of all races, shapes, and sizes.

I have never been a Spider-Man fan…that is until recently with Tom Holland’s rendition of the iconic character. I loved Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War, I loved Spider-Man: Homecoming, and I absolutely LOVED him in Infinity War. But honestly, MCU Peter Parker has been dethroned…badly.
