My Favorite Disney Songs

One of the reasons why I love animated Disney movies so much are the classic songs that fill you with happiness and cover your arms in goosebumps. Those songs are what make movies like The Little Mermaid and Aladdin so incredibly memorable and enjoyable. Without these glorious songs I don’t think those movies would be quite as magical as they are still to this day. So, since I was thinking about Disney songs today, I’m going to share with you the ballads that make me the happiest and urge me to sing along. Enjoy!

“Under the Sea”

Who doesn’t love “Under the Sea?” I have never seen The Little Mermaid and yet this song is so amazing and fun to sing that I know it almost entirely by heart. Especially the last section of the song. It’s absolutely brilliant and it reminds me every time I hear it why I love Disney so much.

“When You Wish Upon A Star”

This just might be one of the most beautiful Disney songs ever created, for its inspiring lyrics and melodic tone is legitimately lovely. This is definitely one of my favorite Disney songs.

Movie Review Flashback: I’ve Finally Seen ‘The Little Mermaid’!

When Disney Plus became available early this morning hours before sunrise I didn’t waste time going onto the streaming service and browsing its wares. The first thing I could’ve watched was The Mandalorian, obviously, but considering that my family and I wanted to all watch it together I decided to watch something else I’ve been waiting to see and that was The Little Mermaid.

My mother’s been telling me about this movie for a little while now so when I finally got the chance to see it I jumped to the opportunity. I was delighted and underwhelmed at the same time.

It surprised me by subverting my expectations. I thought I knew a great portion of the story when in fact I didn’t know anything. It, however, was a bit underwhelming storywise.

I get it, love is powerful, and it makes people do incredible and sometimes foolish things, but this story is so heavy on Ariel’s quest to find love with the dashing Prince Eric that I was kind of annoyed, to be honest.

With powerful heroines like Princess Leia, Wonder Woman, Captain Marvel, and Rey, etc. Ariel is very, very damsel-in-distress-like.

2019 has been a fun year for movies but what’s been even greater have been all of the movie announcements for films coming in the next few years, mainly in the Disney department. Let me show you all of the outstanding things to look forward to in 2021.

Five Outstanding Disney+ Series

In Spring of 2021, we’ll get to see what happened to Loki after he used the Tesseract to escape capture when The Avengers went back in time. With this character finding redemption in Avengers: Infinity War the love for the God of Mischief has only grown and I can’t wait to see what mischief Loki can find himself in. The Live-Action Remake of ‘The Little Mermaid’ Finds Its Ariel

As you may know, Disney is creating live-action remakes of its animated classics and The Little Mermaid is one of those films. Disney, in the last few years, has been pushing diversity more than ever and now that push has only grown, as African-American singer/actress Halle Bailey has been announced to recreate the princess we have grown up knowing as The Little Mermaid.

Halle Bailey is seen on the left with her sister, Chloe Bailey

Halle Bailey is currently on the hit television series, Grownish but she will surely become a mainstream actress after hitting the big screen as such an iconic character. Of course, there will be the haters but I’m very proud of what Disney has done. Plus, she has locks. Love it!

As a young African-American woman who prides in my own natural dreadlocks it’s nice to see this beautiful hairstyle celebrated. Halle Bailey, you’re going to be a Disney princess! Amazing.

Do you like the casting choice? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.

I thank you for reading and I hope you have a beautiful day.
