Ranking the ‘Toy Story’ Movies: From Worst to Best

I just recently participated in a Toy Story marathon over the weekend; a fun activity I had never done before. What made the marathon so fascinating was that I rarely watch the Toy Story movies. I’m talking RARELY. I had seen the first one a couple of times, the second one only once, the third about, maybe…three or four times, and the last one only once a couple of years ago so I pretty much forgot the details of every movie, specifically the second one.

Toy Story is one of the most brilliant concepts for an animated film (or films) I’ve ever seen. There’s just something so unbelievably rewarding in watching a bunch of toys on these wild (and often emotional) adventures that help teach us life lessons and make our day a little brighter. In watching the Toy Story movies, I decided this was the perfect time to do a ranking of this wonderful franchise. Enjoy!

4. Toy Story 4

Toy Story 4 is a fun addition to the franchise and it has its lovable moments but ultimately the same level of sheer brilliance that the other three movies possess just isn’t there with this one. It’s the same old trope (Woody’s on a mission and he’s struggling to come to terms with his loyalty to his kid, this now being Bonnie.) Bo Beep’s character is updated from being more than the pretty farm girl toy who likes Woody to becoming essentially Sharon Carter.

The iconic duo, Keegan Michael-Key and Jordan Peele bring Ducky and Bunny to life in an expectedly hilarious way but even they sometimes feel schticky. The best thing about this is Forky who is funny, sweet, and an instant iconic Toy Story character.

All in all, yeah this movie will make you shed some tears but it just doesn’t live up to the fantastic nature of the other films.

Movie Review Flashback: ‘Toy Story 4’

With Toy Story 4 becoming available to watch on Disney Plus I figured it’d be best to revisit my review of the film. Enjoy!

If you’ve checked to see what Toy Story 4‘s rating among critics has been and glimpsed the 97% score on Rotten Tomatoes or the 7.9 out of 10 scores on IMDb let me assure you, it deserves those ratings.

Toy Story 3 was supposedly the end of the franchise that had started in 1995 and it was a great story as it transitioned little Andy from childhood to adulthood and the imminent but bittersweet breakup between Andy and his favorite toys. It was a tear-inducing “finale” that ended up not only winning Best Animated Film but was only the second animated movie to also be nominated for Best Picture.

It was perfectly written, it told a concise story, and it left people happy. No one was clamoring for a sequel like we wished for a sequel to The Incredibles but we were given one anyway and it was worth the wait. Continue reading Movie Review Flashback: ‘Toy Story 4’

A Movie Ranking: Keanu Reeves

I mean, honestly, I don’t think there are many people that haven’t watched at least one Keanu Reeves movie that they liked. His filmography is extensive, stretching all the way back to the 80s’ when he was a young up-and-coming heartthrob. Today, I thought I’d highlight the action star for this week’s A Movie Ranking. Enjoy!

5. John Wick: Chapter 2

Keanu Reeves in John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017)

John Wick: Chapter 2 is a pretty great action movie which shows just the level of awesomeness that Keanu’s films reach, considering that this is on the bottom of this menial list. If you like bone-crunching, gory action scenes that pretty much don’t stop, you’ll enjoy this movie.

The Golden Globes are tonight (woo-hoo!) and that means the first major movie award season has begun. Who will win? What surprises are in store? And will it dictate the outcome of the Oscars? Best Animated Feature Film

While Toy Story 4 isn’t the best installment in the quadrilogy going up against films like Missing LinkHow to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, and even Frozen 2, which would not receive the same amount of praise as its predecessor, it seems like Toy Story 4 is the clear favorite to win. Oscar Buzz: Which Actors and Movies Could Garner an Oscar Nomination?

It’s past halfway through the year and you can bet The Academy is already summarizing which actors, movies, music scores, etc. are worthy of Oscar nominations for this year’s Oscars. While most of the Oscar-worthy films still haven’t come out yet there are some movies and actors that are already garnering Oscar buzz.

Today I’ll share with you the potential nominees for these categories; Best Leading Actor, Best Picture, Best Leading Actress, Best Animated Film, and Best Visual Effects. Enjoy!

Best Visual Effects

Avengers: Endgame

While I feel that the visual effects for Avengers: Infinity War were better than Endgame it’s destined to garner an Oscar nomination.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters

Godzilla: King of the Monsters is one of those movies that relies heavily on CGI and while this film was not very good storywise it did manage to amaze with its jaw-dropping visual effects. I mean, those action scenes were bonkers, specifically in IMAX. Continue reading Oscar Buzz: Which Actors and Movies Could Garner an Oscar Nomination?
