For thirteen years now, the MCU has been one of the most incredible franchises. It took actors like the three Chrisses, Paul Rudd and Chadwick Boseman, Tom Hiddleston and Tom Holland, and so many others and turned them into superstars not just because they were in great movies but because Sarah Halley Finn knew they would be PERFECT for the roles they would play.
After Stan Lee’s death, I was skeptical for the future of Marvel Studios. Would the franchise still be great or would it lose its steam? I guess I underestimated just how brilliant Kevin Feige and the rest of the team has been through the years because the latest slate of characters and the actors that play them have been incredible.
Let’s just dive into the brand new characters and actors we have and will get to meet this year in the MCU.
The first piece of MCU content since Spider-Man: Far from Home, WandaVision was a risky return to the franchise we know and love so much but boy did it pay off. Not only was it a fantastic series with plenty of twists and turns and a very compelling story but it introduced us to two new powerful female characters that left quite the impression.
Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Harkness stole the show every time she was onscreen. At times she was just straight down hilarious and at other times I would stare at the screen in awe because she did, in fact, feel like a perfect witch. She was the perfect foil to Wanda’s depression and I hope she returns in the future.
And then there was Teyonah Parris’s debut as Monica Rambeau. Do I think her acting skills need a little more refining? Yes I do, but I cannot deny my excitement to see her officially become one of the most powerful superheroes in the universe in The Marvels and to see her don whatever suit the incredible costume designers have created for her.
I also think she’s going to be able to deliver some powerful scenes opposite Brie Larson that could definitely have the potential to yank on my heart strings. She’s going to be a great fit with The Avengers.
It’s another day and that means it’s time for another part in my updated ranking of the MCU characters. Enjoy!
I liked Hope van Dyne in Ant-Man but I was bummed that she wasn’t getting the chance to be a superhero. That, of course, changed in the sequel where we finally got to see her don her suit, fly, and shoot blasters at foes.
While I like Wasp she’s never been one of my major favorites in the MCU, hence her spot at #30 on this list.
29. Red Guardian
I didn’t think I was going to like the Red Guardian in Black Widow but he turned out to be a fun addition to the MCU roster. Plus his jealousy, rivalry, or infatuation he has with Captain America is quite hilarious and I’m going to need Kevin Feige to have him meet Captain America eventually. I think it would be really fun.
Okay, just hear me out. I know it’s early. I know Black Widow hasn’t even been out for a week and I know that Marvel may not have even mapped out Yelena’s story that far ahead yet but…a thought has occurred in my brain. A shipping scenario so awesome I need it to happen. And that is for Yelena Belova and Bucky Barnes to eventually become a couple in the MCU.
Think about it.
In the comics, Bucky Barnes and Natasha Romanoff weren’t just adversaries, they became lovers. Of course, in the MCU that didn’t happen. Natasha would go on to have a one-movie romance with Bruce Banner/The Hulk in Avengers: Age of Ultron and from there on her closest relationship was with her best friend, Clint Barton.
Enters Yelena Belova, the new face of the Black Widow legacy whose story is very reminiscent of Bucky’s own experience.
Well, I’ve seen Black Widow twice now and it was great both times. When I saw that Jac Schaeffer would be writing this movie I knew it was going to be an emotional rollercoaster but honestly, it still caught me off guard. I can’t tell you the amount of times this movie made me want to cry, which I eventually did of course.
Yesterday I shared my spoiler-free review but as always, I want to share my thoughts on the movie as a whole so…spoiler time.
Black Widow was a movie Marvel fans had been asking for for years but we ultimately thought we would never get it. We finally did get it…but it was after already knowing that Natasha Romanoff dies in Endgame, souring the prospect of her film because we knew the outcome wouldn’t lead to more movies featuring her. Her movie was only going to be a puzzle piece to her overall story.
So did I expect the movie to be good, yeah, but did I expect it to be great, not really. To my elation, it was great.
It’s happening everybody. The Hawkeye Disney+ series is currently filming and our first look at Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop is here.
It’s official, everyone! Hailee Steinfeld is Kate Bishop and here we see her decked out in her outfit which looks perfect, by the way.
The cast for Hawkeye has been released and now it can also be confirmed that Florence Pugh will be reprising her role as Yelena Belova in this series. Will this series feature a new Black Widow-Hawkeye friendship? One between Kate Bishop and Belova? We’ll see but I’m already loving the series so far and I can’t wait to see its first teaser sometime next year.
I thank you for reading and I hope you have a great day.
