My Thoughts on the First Two Episodes of ‘The Acolyte’

I have a weird relationship with Star Wars these days. I’ve been a lifelong Star Wars fan, and I love this franchise and these characters, but ever since the third season of The Mandalorian disappointed me, my excitement for the franchise’s newest installments has been muted. It didn’t help that Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ahsoka weren’t as phenomenal as I would’ve hoped, and that the next Star Wars movie we’re most likely getting has the abysmal title The Mandalorian and Grogu (*sigh.)

That being said, I’ve seen the first two episodes of The Acolyte and I already love it. The characters are engaging, the era is intriguing, and there’s something about this show that feels so inherently Star Wars that it’s making me excited about this franchise again.

The characters are immediately fascinating, specifically Amandla Stenberg’s Mae and Lee Jung-Jae’s Master Sol, who bind this story so perfectly with heir instant chemistry.

It’s remarkable how the show has made me so invested in these two characters even though I’ve never known about them until I watched these first two episodes. It shows how good the writing is, and how wonderfully the actors have been able to bring these characters to life.

It only took two episodes for Master Sol to become one of my favorite Jedi, and we’ve got six episodes left to enjoy.

Another thing I’m really liking so far about this show is the action, the score isn’t exactly super memorable, but it has that unmistakable Star Wars vibe, and you can see every penny of the $180 million budget being put to good use because the locations and VFX have been great so far.

All in all, to say I’m excited about this show is an understatement. It’s been a long while since I have felt this thrilled about new Star Wars content, and it feels good.

I thank you for reading, and I hope you have a wonderful day.

  1. The first 3 episodes have been incredible. I’ve enjoyed all the Mandoverse stuff and Andor, but this feels so fresh. Really hoping Lucas film doesn’t give into the racist backlash and we get a 2nd season. Thanks for the great article!
