My Thirteen Favorite Quotes in ‘Star Wars’

Star Wars is a marvelous and magical franchise jam-packed with exciting moments, beautiful locations, and iconic, lovable characters and today I’m going to share with you my favorite quotes from the various films’ many hilarious and epic moments.

13. “Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi, you’re my only hope.” (Princess Leia in A New Hope)

Last-Jedi-Leia-Hologram.jpg

This is one of the most iconic quotes in movie history and it really set in motion a whole lot of events. Luke going to find Obi-Wan, Obi-Wan showing Luke a lightsaber for the first time and telling him about the Force, and the eventual decision that Luke made, due to his uncle and aunt being murdered by the Empire, to learn to become a Jedi. Without that secret message delivered by Princess Leia events in the galaxy would’ve gone on unknown and the still extending story of Star Wars would not be here today. This is a pretty incredible quote in Star Wars.

12. “I know.” (Han Solo in The Empire Strikes Back)

hansolocarbonite.jpeg

The love story between Han Solo and Princess Leia is one of the greatest (I believe the greatest) love stories in science-fiction history and the defining moment of their relationship was when Han was faced with possible death as he faced being frozen in carbonite. When Leia told him, “I love you” the script originally told him to say, “I love you too” but thanks to Harrison Ford’s profound understanding of the character he said they should change his line and turn it into, “I know.”

Han is such a cocky, self-confident and slightly narcissistic man so of course, he would say to her, “I know.” And that’s why this is one of the most genius “I love you too” responses ever. It totally speaks to Han’s character and it is the sweetest thing he has ever said. This is already an impactful moment in the movie but when I found out Harrison Ford was the one who changed that moment, for the better, it instantly became that more magical.

11. “I am fluent in over six million forms of communication.” (C-3PO)

Lars-buys-C3PO.png

I can’t tell you how many times C-3PO has said to people this hilarious quote but that’s why it’s so funny. Not only does it convey that the protocol droid can well, speak in six million forms of communication, but it’s hilarious because C-3PO is so proud of that fact and he doesn’t hide his pride either. C-3PO may be a droid but he definitely is the funniest droid ever created.

10.  “Move, ball.” (Han Solo in The Force Awakens)

bb8hanmoveball.png

BB-8 is such a cute and lovable droid but what was Han’s first interaction with BB-8? There’s a scene in The Force Awakens where he leaves the cockpit of the Millenium Falcon and as he passes BB-8 he says, “Move, ball.” Ha, hilarious! He’s the only character to address the spherical droid as simply a ball and not only is that such a Han reaction but it is absolutely one of the funniest quotes in Star Wars. I mean he called BB-8 a ball. Ha-ha, that’s so funny.

9. “You’re a half-witted, scruffy looking, nerf-herder!” (Princess Leia in The Empire Strikes Back)

Leia and Han had a rocky beginning to their relationship. They were always arguing and fussing, which eventually led to this quote. When Han tried to say, in front of Luke to make him jealous, that he and Leia had essentially made out in the tunnels she was absolutely livid and insulted him in every way she thought would hurt him. But what’s hilarious is that he was only offended that she called him scruffy looking. 😂

8. “You’re just a child in a mask.” (Snoke in The Last Jedi)

snoketalkingtokyloren.jpg

Snoke took Ben Solo as his new apprentice with the excitement that he would become the new Darth Vader but when he didn’t become what he imagined him to be due to Kylo Ren’s constant conflict within himself he soon became very frustrated with his young apprentice. In his mind Kylo Ren was weak, bested by a girl who barely understood the concept of the Force! The evil monster that he envisioned Kylo Ren becoming was not there. Kylo Ren was too fractured, too unsure of himself, and it showed when he took off his helmet in front of Snoke. He saw a boy in front of him, not a man, and it led to him calling what he really was, “A child in a mask.”

Not only was it one of the worst insults I have ever heard in a Star Wars films but it set in motion Kylo Ren’s immense anger towards Snoke. He had done everything he thought he should to impress the wrinkled, marred Supreme Leader. He killed countless innocents for the First Order, he killed his father! and yet Snoke still wasn’t pleased. That insult eventually led to Snoke’s ultimate demise and that’s why this is one of my favorite quotes.

7. “Yeah, me too.” (Kylo Ren in The Last Jedi)

kyloshirtless.jpeg

One of the funnier moments of The Last Jedi was the third Force connection between Rey and Kylo Ren. It started when Rey was enjoying a simple evening and the Force Skype suddenly turned on. She says, “I’d rather not do this right now” and Kylo Ren replies, “Yeah, me too.”

First of all, when you watch the movie for the first time you don’t realize that he’s got his shirt off! and so him saying, “Yeah, me too” has a lot more meaning when you realize what’s going on on his side of the universe. It seems like he either had just gotten out of a shower or was about to take one and so it was kind of the very wrong moment for their Force connection to suddenly snap on.

Secondly, it’s the only time where Kylo Ren sounds kind of…normal. When he usually speaks he’s always either angry, sad, or extremely serious but at that moment his response was just so regular that it’s simply hilarious.

6. “Laugh it up, fuzzball.” (Han Solo in The Empire Strikes Back)

Han-Solo-saying-laugh-it-up-fuzzball-in-Star-Wars-The-Empire-Strikes-Back-1-700x350.jpg

Han and Chewbacca have a fun relationship. They know each other backwards and forwards and they rarely fuss at each other. So it’s absolutely hilarious when Han gets upset with Chewbacca for laughing after Leia calls him a “laser brain.” Not only is it funny that Chewbacca actually laughs at the insult but the fact that Han calls him a fuzzball in retaliation is simply genius writing. In a movie as dark as The Empire Strikes Back, you don’t exactly think about the humorous aspect of the film but it has some of the funniest moments in the Star Wars franchise and that’s part of the reason why it’s my second favorite Star Wars movie.

5. “No.” (Luke Skywalker in The Last Jedi)

Some people might not have appreciated Luke’s arc in The Last Jedi but I, for one, loved it and one of my many favorite moments in the movie was when he faced Kylo Ren on Crait. Luke had just been blasted with who knows how many blaster bolts from the Gorilla Walkers and survived, a feat that Kylo Ren couldn’t comprehend. When Kylo Ren went to face him one on one his emotions were all over the place. He was furious, shocked, and disoriented. I absolutely love their exchange at the beginning of their showdown.

Kylo Ren: “Have you come to say you forgive me? To save my soul?”

And what was Luke’s response? A simple “No.”

Ha! Best response ever!!!! He was done with saving souls. It took him nearly dying at the hands of the Emperor for Darth Vader to snap out of his mind control and he wasn’t ready to work that hard again to save someone from the Dark Side. I love that moment so much and it just keeps confirming how awesome Luke is.

4. “I am a Jedi like my father before me.” (Luke Skywalker in Return of the Jedi)

lukeversuspalpatine.jpg

This quote is SO AWESOME because it is such an impactful moment in Return of the Jedi. Luke had just gone full rage on Darth Vader after the dark lord threatened to turn his sister to the dark side and it seemed, to Emperor Palpatine, that he was about to take Luke as his next prodigy but what did Luke do when he realized what he would become if he fell down that dark path? He threw away his lightsaber (his only protection) looked Emperor Palpatine dead in his face, and told him that he wasn’t going to bend under his wicked will.

It was the defining moment for Luke as a Jedi and it was fantastically epic.

3. “See you around kid.” (Luke Skywalker in The Last Jedi)

lukekylomirage-e1560134302119.png

Yes, I know, it’s two quotes from the Kylo Ren/Luke showdown but hey, there were some awesome things being said at that part and this quote was definitely one of them.

The scene was already jaw-droppingly incredible. Kylo Ren had just figured out that Luke wasn’t even there at all, that he was just a mirage there to toy with his emotions, and the way Luke left him was simply magical.

Luke saying “See you around kid” is important for two reasons. One, it reiterates the fact that, like Luke said, he will always be with him. Secondly, Luke has never been one to call people younger than him kids but which character does? Han Solo. In saying, “See you around kid” he’s speaking to Kylo Ren through the voice of his father and Kylo Ren knows this. It leaves Kylo in an even worse emotional state than he was before.

That’s why, when he discovers the golden dice in the evacuated rebel base, and watched as they disappeared he was so distraught. For a split second, he had a bit of his father back and then, just like that, it was gone. That is some powerful stuff and that was a genius move on Rian Johnson’s behalf.

2. “No, I am your father.” (Darth Vader in The Empire Strikes Back)

Okay, this is undoubtedly one of the greatest quotes in Star Wars. I mean it’s one of the most iconic moments in film history! And like I’ve said many times throughout my blog when I watched The Empire Strikes Back for the first time I already knew he was Luke’s father and it still was an epic moment. That’s how great that reveal was.

Because of that scene, Darth Vader has been cemented as one of the greatest villains in cinematic history.

1. “Turn around you woolie.” (C-3PO in The Empire Strikes Back)

c3pochewbacca.jpeg

C-3PO had a lot of attitude in The Empire Strikes Back. He was always fussing, giving people information they didn’t want to here at the moment, or simply being a nuisance but one of the funniest situations he has ever been in was having to ride Chewbacca’s back for a short time.

C-3PO was already aggravated when he was walking around on two legs but having to sit in a backpack on Chewie’s back was nearly unbearable for him. He was constantly talking and it was so, so very laughable to observe but his funniest moment was when he saw R2-D2 as they were trying to rescue Han. In his excitement he called R2’s name, Chewbacca turned around to greet the astromech droid, completely forgetting that C-3PO was on his back, and in his anger, C-3PO said, “Turn around you woolie.”

LOL! First of all, he called him a woolie. That is downright hilarious. Secondly, it’s just a comical situation every way you look at it. Lawrence Kasdan’s genius was that even in the middle of a tense situation such as them trying to literally rescue Han he was still able to provide laugh-out-loud humor throughout it all and that takes some remarkable writing.

I wouldn’t have imagined that this would become my favorite quote but as I thought about it I realized it was. And wow, nine of my favorite quotes came from The Empire Strikes Back (with 5) and The Last Jedi (with four.) Well, that’s not surprising. They are some of my favorite Star Wars movies of all time and there’s an obvious reason for that.

Well, these are my thirteen favorite quotes in Star Wars. I hope you enjoyed this post as much as I had fun writing it and I thank you for reading. May the Force Be With You, Always.

  1. Ahaha! Great lines. “Star Wars” can be dramatic and intense so having those lines like “scruffy nerf-herder” are great ways of bringing a little comedy into the mix. I think “I am your father” is my favorite line because of the weight of the impact it had on Luke in changing everything he thought about himself.
